Green Party leader Zack Polanski has called for Britain’s “special relationship” with the US to end after Washington launched waves of strikes against the Islamic Republic.
As news of the military action broke, the 43-year-old London Assembly member wrote on social media: "This is an illegal, unprovoked and brutal attack that shows once again that the USA and Israel are rogue states."
"The UK must end our cosy relationship with the USA and our ongoing support for Israel.
He added: "There is only one nuclear armed state in the Middle East. It is Israel."

Mothin Ali, the Green Party’s co-deputy leader, echoed Mr Polanski’s remarks, writing: "Israel and the US have launched an unprovoked and illegal attack on a sovereign nation during ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
"We should not allow the UK to be dragged into another American war.
"We must do everything possible to stop this and uphold peace in the region."
Mr Ali later attended a so-called “Stop the War” demonstration in London on Saturday, where he was seen protesting beneath an Islamic Republic of Iran flag.

Ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said: "The attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States are illegal, unprovoked and unjustifiable.
“Our Government must condemn this flagrant breach of international law, and urgently pursue a foreign policy based on justice, sovereignty and peace.”
Richard Burgon, Labour MP for Leeds East, branded the intervention as an "illegal act of aggression".

"It risks inflaming the Middle East. We must oppose Trump’s reckless ripping up of international law which makes the world less safe," he added.
Meanwhile, Dame Emily Thornberry, Labour MP for Islington South and Chairwoman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, said she was "pleased to see the UK is not involved in these strikes on Iran".
She wrote on social media: “They are ill-advised and illegal.
“We will be hit by the consequences though and need to prepare for chaos in the region, with shipping lanes, oil facilities and military bases (including our own) being attacked.”

Following the Supreme Leader’s death, scenes of celebration were reported in parts of Tehran and among Iranian communities abroad.
