Peace lilies on the brink of death if given the right care

There are scores of reasons peace lilies start dropping, but the most common causes can be tackled in three simple steps.

Gardening enthusiast Riley Smith recently shared a simple hack to bring the plants back from the brink of death in less than 20 minutes.

She explained that three components, namely water, repotting and light exposure, are the perfect antidote for wilting plants.

“I was gone for a few days and came back to see my peace lily looked [droopy]" the content creator told her followers. “It was so sad but I managed to revive it in just a few hours.

She continued: “I dusted all the leaves then took it to the shower to soak all the leaves and all the soil all the way through.”

Next, Riley repotted the plant into a fresh container with drainage holes at its base.

“I rinsed it off and let it sit in the sun for a couple of hours,” the plant enthusiast added, revealing a completely revived plant.

Peace lilies are one of the most popular houseplants, but they have intricate needs once they’re brought home from the store.

To enjoy long-term flowering, the plants must receive the right amount of light and water, at the right time.

Experts at Quickly Plants claim the goal is, ultimately, to replicate the plant's natural environment in your home.

“The perfect indoor temperature for the peace lily is between 18C to 28C,” explained the experts.

“As long as the indoor temperature doesn’t dip lower than 18C she will be happy.”

Describing the best lighting conditions, the expert added: “She will be happy in most light conditions.

“It is important that your peace lily does not receive any harsh direct light.

Repotting lilies gives the plant a new lease of life

“The best place to put your peace lily is in the bathroom with lots of indirect medium light.

“The more light your peace lily receives, the faster it will grow and bloom, especially in the spring and summer months.”

The flowers want to bask in filtered sunlight without being exposed to the harshness of direct rays.

Another factor to bear in mind is that they are highly susceptible to damage from chlorine, meaning you should let this evaporate from tap water before watering.
