Affected customers can return the product for a full refund with or without a receipt

Woodstock Foods has issued a recall for its Vanilla Crème Crowns pastries after undeclared hazelnuts were discovered in the product.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) classified this as "a possible health risk" for anyone with an allergy to hazelnuts (nuts).

The recall specifically targets Vanilla Crème Crowns in 12 x 50g pack sizes bearing batch code 224934 with a best before date of January 2026.

Officials confirmed that the recall affects pastries sold across England and Wales.

Point-of-sale notices are being displayed in retail stores to inform customers about the recall and provide guidance on returns.

Customers who have already purchased the affected product and have a hazelnut allergy were instructed: "Do not eat it." Rather, they should return it to its place of purchase.

For further information, shoppers can contact Woodstock Foods on 0787 639 4406.

In an official notice, the company advised customers to check if they have purchased the affected batch and date code.

A popular ice cream has raised allergy concerns

Anaphylaxis UK

Symptoms of a tree nut allergy

There are eight tree nuts in the tree nut family: almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pistachios, shea nuts, and walnuts.

Allergy UK stated: "Signs and symptoms usually occur within minutes of contact with tree nuts but can also occur up to two hours later.

"Most allergic reactions to tree nuts are mild, but for some people, they can also be moderate or severe. Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction, which can be life-threatening.

For detailed guidance on tree nut allergies, including who is at risk, signs and symptoms, types of reaction, diagnosis, and management strategies, consult Allergy UK.

Woodstock Foods' recall comes as a popular ice cream sold at a major supermarket was declared unsafe for some consumers.

Several batches of Wall's Mini Milk Vanilla, Strawberry & Chocolate Ice Cream Lollies were deemed unsafe because they contain milk and may contain nuts (pistachios), peanuts and soya, which are not mentioned in English on the label.

Food and product recalls must always be taken seriously to ensure customer safety.

The FSA explained: "Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

"Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an allergy alert."
