Goodwood Festival saw car makers showcase their latest offering to customers

A £2million electric car crashed following its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on Thursday.

The Lotus Evija X electric hypercar was due to be demoed at the festival but was cut short after it crashed in the first 30 seconds.


The British car brand which was recently bought out by a Chinese company was expected to showcase its 2,000-horsepower vehicle to the crowd.

However, the vehicle barely set off moving a few metres before crashing into a pile of smoke.

Simon Lane, executive director at Lotus Advanced Performance said: “These models represent the pinnacle of our engineering and design capabilities, embodying the spirit of innovation and performance that Lotus is known for.

Other cars to debut at the festival included the Ineos Grenadier Detour which has been limited to just 200 models with a price point of £134,000.

The limited-edition version of its Grenadier 4×4 – the Detour is the first model to be built alongside the firm’s Arcana Works program which specialises in creating special edition versions of its cars.

The Detour allows customers to personalise their car with exterior colours and interior trim.

Chinese brand MG revealed its new HS model priced at £23,295. The new car features a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a plug-in hybrid variant that will deliver a range of 75 miles.

Goodwood also saw the world debut of the Polestar Concept BST, which is priced at £69,900.

Featuring 350kw/476hp, the bodywork is finished off in silver, flared wheel arches, a wider track and 22-inch alloy wheels.

Bentley meanwhile brought its new Continental GT Speed to the festival, priced at £230,500.

Featuring a new hybrid powertrain, the GT Speed now features a 4.0-litre V8 with hybrid technology.

The new engine boasts a total power output of 771bhp and a 1000Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 208mph and can go from zero to 60mph within 3.1 seconds.

There is also a 25.7kWh battery pack and it is claimed to be able to drive up to 50 miles on electric power alone.

Toyota debuted it GR Yaris H2 concept priced at £44,250. It features a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit in the standard car.
