The Duchess of Kent died at Kensington Palace on Thursday evening, surrounded by family

King Charles and Queen Camilla have made their first public appearance since the Duchess of Kent’s death.

The royal couple attended the annual Braemar Games, which are held at the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park near Aberdeenshire.


King Charles wore a black blazer and waistcoat to the event just days after Buckingham Palace said the monarch was mourning the loss of the Duchess of Kent.

On Saturday, Buckingham Palace confirmed the key details surrounding the Duchess of Kent’s funeral.

The funeral will take place at Westminster Cathedral on Tuesday, 16th of September at 2pm.

The Duchess of Kent’s coffin will rest in the private chapel at Kensington Palace ahead of the funeral.

The coffin will be taken by hearse to Westminster Cathedral on Monday, 15th September, where the Rite of Reception and Vespers will take place, on the eve of the Requiem Mass.

The Duchess of Kent’s coffin will rest overnight in the Lady Chapel ahead of the funeral at Westminster Cathedral.

King Charles, Queen Camilla and members of the Royal Family will join the Duke of Kent and members of the Duchess of Kent's family at the Requiem Mass for the Duchess of Kent.

Afterwards, the coffin will be taken by hearse to the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore, Windsor.

Flags will be half-masted at all official Royal Residences flying the Union flag on the day of the Funeral.

Buckingham Palace announced on Friday that the Duchess of Kent died at Kensington Palace on Thursday evening, surrounded by family.

The Palace added that the King, Queen and members of the Royal Family are in mourning following the death of the much-loved royal.

The Duchess of Kent was the oldest living member of the Royal Family after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

The Buckingham Palace statement said: “It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent.

“Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.

“The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”

The Duchess of Kent was the oldest living member of the Royal Family after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
