New data has shown the top 10 best-selling manufacturers in the UK over the last 12 months, as dozens of brands compete for the attention of British drivers.
More than two million new cars were sold over the last 12 months, with some of the most well-known manufacturers retaining their place as the best-selling brands.
Based on research from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), GB News has compiled the top 10 best-selling manufacturers in 2025.

1. Volkswagen - 178,607 sales

Volkswagen was the best-selling brand in the UK last year
| VOLKSWAGENVW returned to the top of the best-selling brands chart for the fifth year on the bounce with an improved market share of 8.84 per cent.
While it is a modest improvement of 12,303 compared to its total last year, VW blew every other manufacturer out of the water, with almost 56,000 more sales than the nearest competitor.
The VW Golf, Tiguan, T-Roc and Polo each had more than 24,000 sales, with Rod McLeod, director of VW UK, calling it the "perfect start to a really exciting year for the brand".
2. BMW - 122,723 sales

BMW remains the most popular premium brand in the UK
| BMWBMW retained its position as the UK's leading premium automotive brand, with an impressive 33,945 electric vehicles over the last 12 months.
The BMW Group as a whole also saw positive success with its range of Mini electric vehicles, seeing a 31.7 per cent jump in registrations last year.
David George, CEO at BMW Group UK and Ireland, said: "With more than one quarter of our registrations fully electric, our focus remains on giving customers the right choice at the right time."
3. Ford - 118,998 sales
The Ford Puma Gen-E is one of eight models included in the £3,750 Electric Car Grant | FORDThe American giant continues to be a stalwart on British roads, with its electric offering becoming more popular in recent months.
The Ford Puma Gen-E and Ford e-Tourneo Courier were the first two electric cars to be added to the Government's Electric Car Grant when it launched in the second half of 2025.
4. Kia - 113,436 sales

The Kia Sportage came in second on the list of best-selling cars in 2025
| KIAKia also impressed with a strong sales performance in 2025, setting a new record for the South Korean brand in the UK, achieving a market share of 5.6 per cent.
The brand saw a 19 per cent year-on-year increase in registrations, while the Sportage model was the second-best-selling car, with an impressive 47,788 new registrations.
As a wider company, Kia secured 3.1 million new registrations across the globe over the last 12 monthsm with the Sportage again topping its internal sales chart.

5. Audi - 111,115 sales
The Audi Q4 e-tron | AUDIDespite achieving 5.5 per cent of the total market share, Audi saw its total registrations fall by more than nine per cent over the last 12 months.
However, the Q4 e-tron and Q6 e-tron were ranked in third and fourth place, respectively, in the list of best-selling electric vehicles.
Both models sold more than 13,100 models, and beat out the likes of the Ford Explorer, BMW i4, Kia EV3 and Volvo EX30.
6. Hyundai - 93,124 sales
Drivers will see the largest savings with the Hyundai Inster | HYUNDAIHyundai has jumped from ninth to sixth place in the sales chart in 2025, with the brand praising the Tucson model, which accounted for 31 per cent of total sales.
The manufacturer has already teased its "biggest EV yet", which is set to be displayed at the Brussels Motor Show in Belgium later this week.
To boost EV sales, Hyundai has launched a new incentive scheme giving drivers £3,750 off the price of the Inster, or £1,500 off the Kona Electric, Ioniq 5, Ioniq 5 N, Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 9.
7. Toyota - 90,126 sales

Toyota sold more than 90,000 vehicles in the UK this year
| TOYOTAThe Japanese brand continues to perform well in the UK, with 4.46 per cent of the total market share from 90,126 sales.
8. Nissan - 90,102 sales

The new Nissan Leaf began production in Sunderland in December
| NISSANNissan will look to build on its sales performance last year with new electric vehicles in 2026, some of which are being produced at the brand's Sunderland plant.
The automaker has invested £450million in the facility to produce the next-generation Nissan Leaf in a massive boost to the North East of England.
Adam Pennick, vice president of manufacturing at Nissan Sunderland Plant, said: "Nissan has invested into our state-of-the-art plant to build the EVs of the future and there is huge pride and excitement in our team to be building this brilliant car in Sunderland."
9. Mercedes-Benz - 89,267 sales
The Mercedes-Benz EQE is one of the brand's best-selling EVs | MERCEDES-BENZMercedes-Benz will continue its successful 2025, with an even bigger 2026 as the German manufacturer celebrates a number of major milestones.
2026 will mark 140 years of innovation since the iconic Benz patent, as well as 130 years since the first van and first truck in 1896.
It will also be 100 years since the merger between Benz & Cie and Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft to create Mercedes-Benz.
10. MG - 85,155 sales
The MG ZS EV is one of Britain's most popular electric vehicles | MGMG rounds out the top 10 best-selling manufacturers in 2025, with year-on-year growth of 4.44 per cent, bringing its total market share to 4.21 per cent.
The Chinese-owned carmaker also broke records, having registered more than 300,000 registrations across Europe during 2025, an astonishing 30 per cent increase compared to 2024.
Guy Pigounakis, MG UK's commercial director, said: "Reaching a milestone of 300,000 sales before the end of 2025 clearly demonstrates that our product range resonates strongly with customers - offering the right combination of design, technology, quality and accessibility."
