Motorists are facing long delays after a car fire this morning

Motorists are being warned of long delays and congestion on the M25 this morning following a huge vehicle fire.

The M25 clockwise between J25 (Enfield) and J24 (Potters Bar) traffic has been held due to a huge car blaze.

National Highways has confirmed that the fire service is at the scene and that recovery has been arranged.

Two of the four lanes are now closed as a result of the car fire, with the emergency services remaining in attendance.

Posting on social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways: East has confirmed that the situation remains ongoing.

Drivers are currently facing delays of 90 minutes and 10 miles of congestion on the approach to the scene of the accident.

Live data maps from the AA suggest that long delays will remain after the car fire, which was first reported at around 7.30am.

Frustrated drivers have been uploading images from their vehicles, showing columns of standstill traffic.

Motorway cameras also show long delays on the major motorway, with many drivers expecting further delays during rush hour north of London this morning.
