The M11 is currently closed southbound between J7 in Harlow and J6 on the M25 due to a serious collision

Drivers have been warned to expect delays this afternoon after a multi-vehicle collision caused a major motorway to operate at just 10mph.

The incident occurred on the M11 in Essex, which is currently closed southbound between J7 in Harlow and J6 on the M25.

The collision was reported at 10.20am and involved two cars and a van, which has now closed the carriageway to allow the emergency services to work safely at the scene.

National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management and helping clear vehicles caught in the delay.

Due to the collision, the A120 eastbound exit slip to Stansted Airport has been closed, with drivers now having to find alternative routes.

The agency has put in a diversion to help drivers access the airport, which takes drivers via the B1256, through Takeley and Little Canfield and then onto the A120 westbound at Dunmow West Interchange towards Stansted.

Meanwhile, for drivers on the M11, the agency has urged drivers to follow the solid circle diversion symbol.

The diversion in place instructs drivers to exit the M11 southbound at J7 onto Hastingwood Interchange.

From here, they should take the second exit at the roundabout onto the A414 London Road (signposted Harlow).

Drivers need to continue on the A414 for 10.5 miles until the A10 interchange, and at the interchange, take the first exit onto the A10 southbound (signposted Hoddesdon/Cheshunt/London).

Drivers need to continue for seven miles until the M25 interchange, and at the roundabout, take the first exit to join the M25 clockwise.

Drivers should then continue until J27 and then take the second exit to re-join the M11 southbound at J6, the agency detailed.

The agency warned that if the closure impacts their planned route, drivers should "allow extra journey time or even delay your journey".
