The Australian Formula One driver made an unexpected appearance in the latest series of the Amazon Prime Video show

Oscar Piastri has found himself at the centre of an online debate among the Clarkson's Farm fandom after popping up in the newly released fifth season.

The McLaren driver joined Jeremy Clarkson and Kaleb Cooper at Diddly Squat during filming to see if his driving skills on the track could translate onto the farm.

Mr Piastri's appearance at the farm was all the more humorous when it transpired that avid F1 fan Mr Clarkson was elated to welcome him to Diddly Squat, while Mr Cooper had no idea who he was.

What followed was Mr Cooper giving the Melbourne-born driver a driving lesson from the cab of his tractor, with the show's producers mocking the farm manager for giving one of the world's most talented racing drivers tips.

However, it transpired that Mr Cooper could have done with imparting a bit more wisdom on Mr Piastri as the 25-year-old struggled to reverse park a tractor with a trailer attached.

Both Mr Clarkson and Mr Cooper took the opportunity to tease Mr Piastri about his inability to park the vehicle, before they were called away to more serious matters on the farm.

The scene provided a moment of comic relief from the hardships of farming on the show, as well as Mr Clarkson's own serious health woes that he shared with viewers.

However, it appears not to have gone down well with some fans of the show, who have claimed it felt "pointless" and jarring to the show's flow.

On Reddit, a Clarkson's Farm fan by the name u/Ok_Ad_9013 questioned why the F1 driver was given so much airtime in the new series.

"I watched seasons 3 and 4 before s5 and I have only watched the first two episodes but the show seems different with the editing/transitions and pacing," they began.

"I think it feels a bit more scattered and like a best moments of a farm rather than a high-budget cinematic informational farming story.

"EG: what was the point of Oscar Piastri’s appearance we didn’t even see him complete the task?" (sic)

The viewer's stance sparked quite the debate, with fellow Clarkson's Farm fans quick to argue against the point.

One Redditor responded: "I suspect your opinion will change after watching the next two. First two were mostly off the farm and Jeremy being Jeremy.

"Three and four are more focused on the farm and were definitely the better of the first four."

And a second stood by the new series: "Cuts didn't seem to be an issue for me, and S5 just seems like a natural evolution of the show, where now it is about everything to sustain his farm not just the farming itself which would grow stale over time.

"Episode 3 shows a lot in the evolution of farming which could sustain this show for many more years if Clarkson starts working to implement those changes." (sic)

Meanwhile, over on X, Mr Piastri's cameo appeared to prove a positive addition to many who binged the new episodes early on Wednesday morning.

One X user enjoyed the comedic moment: "I'm crying. The cut from Oscar doing Oscar things in F1 to him being useless on that tractor."

And a second echoed: "@JeremyClarkson Oscar Piastri is so funny in the new season. Bring him as a permanent part of the cast please."

While Mr Piastri's cameo may have taken some viewers by surprise, the F1 star did tease his visit to the Cotswolds in a social media post at the time.

On Instagram back in November 2024, the driver shared a series of snaps from his day out at Diddly Squat, including a smiley snap with Mr Cooper.

Poking fun at his incompetence on the farm, he captioned the post: "Not sure Piastri’s farm will be happening any time soon."
