Former MasterChef star John Torode has revealed he is in therapy following his BBC axe this year.

The chef and presenter hosted the show alongside Gregg Wallace since 2005, but both were removed from the show 20 years later after scandals led to a BBC probe.

Mr Torode, 60, was fired over an accusation of using racist language, which he denies.

The presenter's removal came as a shock to fans of the show as it occurred after an inquiry into fellow host Mr Wallace's conduct.

In a candid post Mr Torode shared online on Thursday, he stated therapy has helped him to "real" instead of "brave".

He explained how seeking help had aided him in coping with the "unexpected and brutal life change".

In his online newsletter, the Australian food critic shared how there had been lots of "ups and downs, good and bad, highs and lows".

He went on to conclude "things can change" and that he has an "incredible life."

In his piece published in newsletter A View From The Fridge, he reflected: "Therapy over the past few months has entitled me to no longer 'be brave' but instead be real," The Sun reports.

He penned: "Fear is the instinct that keeps us alive, but should grief and fear meet each other I wonder how much damage it can do when we decide to shut it away, shut it down and not let it flow as it should."

"I have tried to set myself a schedule to write a new newsletter each week, finding a rhythm, in my tumultuous physical, illogical and physiological state of mind, has not been easy.

“What is becoming easier is being able to talk and to vocalise how I feel as I come to terms with the past five months and the impact it has had."

The 60-year-old added: "Life has changed for ever for me and for those close to me.

"There is no sympathy searching here, just honesty."

It comes days after it was announced Mr Torode would be making his television come-back.

ITV revealed the presenter would be featuring in its Christmas daytime schedule alongside his wife Lisa Faulkner.

During the festive period, the husband and wife duo will present a Christmas-themed version of John and Lisa's Weekend Kitchen.

This represents Mr Torode's initial fresh television venture since his dismissal from the BBC cookery competition.

Whilst Mr Torode has remained visible on television through previously recorded episodes of both MasterChef and his ITV programme, this special edition signifies his first newly commissioned work post-controversy.
