A debate between the People's Channel star Camilla Tominey and think-tank boss Praful Nargund has sparked quite the reaction after the pair sparred about President Donald Trump on Thursday's Newsnight.
President Trump and his administration have dominated global headlines so far in 2026, from the capture of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela to the President's threats to the Islamic Republic of Iran's regime amid the ongoing uprising.
This week, the administration was once again in the news as it stood by an Ice agent who fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis during a raid in the city.
Speaking on the BBC news programme about the impact President Trump's actions could have on the UK-USA special relationship, Camilla and Good Growth Foundation's Mr Nargund found themselves at loggerheads regarding the Republican leader.

BBC Newsnight: Camilla Tominey clashed with Praful Nargund over Trump

Camilla began: "I think the nature of this special relationship as it now stands is a curious beast.
"On one hand, you’ve got two absolutely unlikely bedfellows in Keir Starmer, the former lawyer who very much believes in international law, and Donald Trump, who takes actions which suggest he doesn’t.
"Equally, you’ve got the Prime Minister trying to keep the US happy because of the important nature of that ally, but also we know really that his heart belongs with his European neighbours and the coalition of the willing.
"But of course, he has to maintain this appearance of a relationship with America because we’re in a very perilous state right now.

"You’ve got Russia still at war with Ukraine, activity in China, and what’s been happening here."
Mr Nargund interjected: "We should talk about this instability, right? We did some research on this last year, and the British public told us they thought Donald Trump was a greater threat to British interests than terrorist groups."
"That would probably be a bit of a misnomer," Camilla replied with a chuckle in disbelief. "The idea that Donald Trump is more dangerous than Iran right now is ludicrous."
However, Mr Nargund refused to budge. "He's pretty unpopular in this country... that’s what people feel," he insisted.

Mr Nargund went on: "And actually that was last year during all the trade furore, and now we have all of these actions instead, and that’s actually what is pushing people-"
Camilla intervened: "Do you believe that? Do you think Donald Trump is more of a threat than Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranians?"
Mr Nargund answered: "I think he is unreliable, and I think it is a big part of why the country — even those who voted for Leave — actually want a stronger relationship with Europe in particular."
"But is he more of a threat?" Camilla interrupted as she pressed for an answer. Mr Nargund failed to oblige.

Instead, he said: "We’re reliant on Americans for security, that is the reality, but the fact is there is an opportunity here for the government to push towards the European Union in order to secure us."
Mr Nargund then turned his attention to politics closer to home, spotting the chance to target Nigel Farage and his Reform UK party.
"And actually, the danger is for Reform. One of the biggest challenges for Nigel Farage is that one of his biggest perceived weaknesses is his former bromance with Donald Trump," the Newsnight guest claimed.
"And actually, people find that Donald Trump is an agent of chaos, and that closeness could be a danger for Reform in the next election."

Donald Trump
| GETTYCamilla refused to entertain Mr Nargund's claims. "He’s not a terrorist. I mean, let’s get this into perspective," she hit back.
"You started the show earlier, looking at the scenes in Iran. Okay, let’s just be clear where our global enemies actually lie. It certainly isn’t across the pond.
"And that is why Labour government ministers, probably against their own inner monologue, are making waves to be close to the Americans."
Mr Nargund attempted to butt in, but Camilla pushed forward: "Vance has been more equivocal and slightly more circumspect on the issue of Venezuela and Greenland, and that probably appeals to [David] Lammy.

"But at the end of the day, we cannot possibly take our own Prime Minister seriously if he has a Jeremy Corbyn-esque attitude towards the US president."
Clips of the discussion were soon shared on social media, and it's safe to say many X users were similarly baffled by Mr Nargund's suggestion that the US posed a greater threat than that of Iran or other enemies overseas.
Several threw their backing behind Camilla's opposition, including one X user who fired back at Mr Nargund: "Facts beat 'feels'. Stop behaving like kindergarten and grow up."
"More 'feelings', never facts when it comes to people with Trump Derangement Syndrome (aka the BBC)," a second weighed in before a third similarly contested: "This is preposterous. It’s not how people feel. It’s how you feel and want people to feel. It’s not how I feel."

Sir Keir Starmer and President Trump
| PAA fourth echoed: "It’s what ‘some’ people feel. Maybe if the bbc reported on what is happening in Iran right now , the opinions might change."
And a fifth fumed: "What a clown Praful Nargund is - thank goodness he wasn’t elected. @BBCNewsnight must be desperate for contributors…"
"Ahhh another absolute b*****d allowed to speak on the BBC ..... But it's got left-wing bias," a sixth hit out, while a seventh praised the GB News star: "Camilla Tominey speaking sense, Brits obsession with Trump's 'evilness' is deranged when you consider how awful so many of our world leaders are."
Elsewhere, another added: "This guy just ignored the questions put to him. And continued with his verbose nonsense.
"Yes left wingers actually and bizarrely believe Trump is more of a threat than Iran. That is the levels of stupidity of most of them. Ask the people of Iran. Ask the people of Venezuela. Inextricably linked."
However, Mr Nargund wasn't alone in his viewpoint, as some viewers did wade into the online debate to back his claims.
"Is Trump dangerous? He's f***ing unhinged! He's the greatest threat to World Peace by a mile - and he's only been in power a few months," one X user said in response to the debate.
And a second hit out: "Camilla needs to grow up and realise that under Trump, America is the world's biggest threat." (sic)
