The GB News star had been flying home with the airline when the incident took place

GB News star Andrew Pierce has hit out at British Airways after claiming he faced "appalling" in-flight treatment during a recent trip.

Recounting the incident to GB News viewers, the Britain's Newsroom host revealed that he was astonished at the service he received after being promised "generous hospitality" during his flight.

Detailing his flight home from Malta over the festive period, Andrew told cohost Miriam Cates: "British Airways has completely lost the plot, completely.

"I put out a very simple tweet out yesterday saying I spent a few days in Malta over the Christmas period. Absolutely lovely."

He fumed: "Do you know they said we're going to serve you and show you our generous hospitality, we're going to serve you a snack.

"The snack was two biscuits. You had to ask for a cup of water and there was no cup of tea with the biscuits, even if you wanted one, because there was no hot water."

Shocked by Andrew's recollection, Miriam asked: "How did you cope?"

Andrew responded: "What a joke. I think it's appalling, actually. And now we hear that British Airways passengers flying business class won't be happy to hear they're going to axe the hot breakfast service on some of its shortest routes from this week. I mean, what is the point of it?"

Criticising the downfall of British Airways in recent years, Andrew told GB News: "It used to be the national carrier. It used to be the world's most popular airline.

"And now it's, frankly, you might as well go with EasyJet or Ryanair because the prices, they're better prices and you get exactly the same service."

Miriam then quipped: "And bring a picnic, probably the safest idea."

Recalling her recent flight chaos in Budapest, Miriam told Andrew that her plane had to be "towed" due to an accident with the plane in front of hers on the runway.

She said: "A plane had slipped off the runway and into some grass, so our plane was stuck. But the Hungarians towed our plane around the plane to make sure we could still take off. And I ended up being about an hour late, which wasn't too bad really."

Andrew responded: "I do seriously think if that had been in Britain, they'd have shut the runway.

"They would have taken hours and hours and endless delays and hand-wringing. It would be absolutely ridiculous."

Taking to social media at the time of the incident, Andrew posted to his followers: "Once dubbed the world's favourite airline, British Airways' idea today of 'generous hospitality' on a three hour flight from Malta - two plain biscuits & plastic cup of water. Not even a cup of tea. How the mighty fall.

"The staff say on the intercom: ‘We will be serving you a snack’, definition of snack, ‘a small amount of food eaten between meals.’ Two biscuits does not constitute a snack. Passengers were mocking the description.

"And if you wanted a cup of tea, which you’d have to pay for with your plain biscuits, bad luck. The hot water wasn’t working."

Responding to Andrew's social media post, a spokesman for British Airways said: "We’re sorry to hear you were disappointed with the onboard offering.

"We appreciate your feedback and will share it with the relevant teams, as we’re always looking for ways to improve our service. Thank you for taking the time to let us know."
