The President described himself as 'the number one attraction anywhere in the world'

After a number of artists withdrew from Donald Trump's Freedom 250 concert, the President has proposed a new headliner - himself.

On Truth Social, the President said he understood artists were getting the "yips" about performing at the event.

He said he is now considering headlining the event, describing himself as "the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, "the man who get much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime" and "the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!)".

Artists including Young MC, Morris Day, the Commodores, Poison frontman Bret Michaels, and country singer Martina McBride all announced they would not participate in the event after the lineup was announced.

Mr Trump has described the artists who have pulled out of the event as "third rate".

On social media, the President said: "I am ordering my representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally on Wednesday, Washington, D.C., same time, same location.

"Only great patriots invited — it will be a wild and beautiful celebration of America!"

He said he may cancel the concert "just like I canceled my involvement with the failing and unsafe to be in Kennedy Center", and replace it with a "giant Make America Great Again Rally".

Morris Day and Young MC were first to announce they would not be participating in the Freedom 250 concert.

Young MC, best known for his 1989 hit Bust a Move, said artists were not told about any "political involvement with the event" and he would perform in DC in the future at an event that was "not so politically charged".

And Morris Day posted an image on social media which read: "Contrary To Rumor, Morris Day & The Time Will Not Be Performing At The 'GREAT AMERICAN STATE FAIR'."

Some artists have released statements confirming they would still participate in the event, including Vanilla Ice and one half of Milli Vanilli's public-facing duo.

On social media, Vanilla Ice, real name Robert Matthew Van Winkle, said: "This is not a political platform. This is celebrating America's birthday."

And one half of Milli Vanilli's public face Fab Morvan, said he still planned to appear at Freedom 250.

Milli Vanilli were famously revealed to be a pair of models lip syncing to other performers in 1990.

The group's original singers said: "The original/real vocalists of Milli Vanilli…will NOT be performing their hits live at the Great American State Fair. Others using the name Milli Vanilli should be considered a tribute band."

Organisers Freedom250 have insisted its initiative is nonpartisan.

Spokeswoman Rachel Reisner said in a statement: "There is far too much to celebrate about this great nation to let noise and division distract from the incredible moment ahead - and we look forward to welcoming millions of Americans to a fair that belongs to all Americans."

The White House has backed a number of events for the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.

This includes a UFC fight card to be held on the White House South Lawn, the Great American State Fair - a World's Fair-style celebration in June and July - and an IndyCar Grand Prix to be held in the capital in August.
