The Grammy-nominated artist collapsed on stage at Pier 17 in New York

Brooklyn-born Bebe Rexha was floored on stage last night as a phone from the audience struck her on the side of the head.

Performing as part of the Best F’n Night Of My Life tour, the pop star was rushed off stage for treatment and has reportedly received stitches.

Videos apparently show a man confessing to throwing the phone and being escorted from The Rooftop at Pier 17 where Bebe Rexha was performing.

Bebe Rexha, born Bleta Rexha, is best known for hits I’m Good (Blue) with David Guetta and Meant to be.

The singer-songwriter is yet to speak out over the incident but Pop Base have quoted her mother as saying she needed three stitches.

The incident occurred towards the end of Bebe Rexha’s set, causing the performance to end early with fans instead turning on the assailant with shouts of “that’s assault!” and “a**hole”.

During the set, Bebe Rexha had invited an emotional fan from El Savador onto the stage for a rendition of her song Gonna Show You Crazy, and responded to the audience's song request to sing Seasons off the cuff.

While the intention behind the mobile phone toss is not immediately obvious, the incident follows a growing trend of fans chucking mobiles on stage in the hope of artist interaction.

Some musicians have entertained the trend, posing for selfies, taking videos or phoning friends before handing the handset back.

Harry Styles once phoned a fan’s friend on a phone flung from the crowd, yet Styles has also been hit in the eye by a handful of Skittles during a set in Los Angeles after which he needed to regularly rinse out his eye.

Another musician to have taken a hit to the face, N-Dubz’s Tulisa had her sunglasses knocked off by a fans phone during a reunion gig in Glasgow.

Bebe Rexha is due to play further shows on her tour at The Fillmore in Philadelphia on June 20; The Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Maryland on June 21; the Tabernacle in Atlanta on June 23; and the Hard Rock Live Orlando in Orlando, Florida on June 24.

The singer has recently made headlines for raising awareness of polycystic ovary syndrome.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show on 25 May, Bebe Rexha said: “I went to the doctor last year - and a lot of women actually have this and they don't know about it - but they diagnosed me with PCOS, which is polycystic ovary syndrome.

“It's one of the leading causes of why women gain weight and are obese.

“I literally jumped, like, 30 pounds so quickly, maybe a little bit more. But we got to just be positive and just show people love.'

“I was a lot thinner and I did gain some weight - that comes with the territory. I'm not mad about it because it is true, but when you see things like that, it does mess with you.”

Bebe Rexha released an eponymous new album in April, describing its themes to Variety as “about feeling empowered even while feeling uncertain - of change, growing up, self-reflecting.”

Bebe Rexha continued: “I’ve always been open in my lyrics — and with life in general — when it comes to talking about what I’ve been through…this album is about expression and tells a story about having a change of heart.”
