The actress chose to leave Strictly Come Dancing just a few weeks into the latest series

Amanda Abbington has shared a poignant message with her social media followers on her birthday as she posted a tearful clip.

Taking the opportunity to dispense some words of wisdom, the 52-year-old was visibly emotional as she reiterated how quickly time goes and urged her followers to tell their loved ones what they mean to them.

It comes after the actress made headlines for a while after quitting Strictly Come Dancing just a few weeks into the series last year following reports of a feud between herself and her professional dance partner, Giovanni Pernice.

She also opened up in the months following about her mental health struggles as well as the vile trolling she had received over her short stint on the BBC show.

Filming a message to her Instagram, Abbington stated in a lengthy clip on Wednesday: “Hello, it’s my birthday today – I’m 52. I just wanted to come on here and say thank you to everybody who has sent me such lovely messages so far.

“I’ve had a video – a 10 minute video of people, beautiful girls that I know and some that I haven’t met, just being so lovely and supportive and kind and generous. And I just want to thank you all so much for being so lovely.”

She later stated: “I’m 52 – that’s half of my life essentially gone, it’s gone. And it goes by really quickly, so savour every second of it.

“And I know we don’t, we say that and then we’ll spend four hours idling on Instagram or you know, procrastinating and not really doing anything.”

She went on: “I keep an eye on that now and make sure that I check in on people who I love and who I care about.

“And even people who I don’t love and care about, because we’re all going through our different s***. We’re all going through our own crazy play in our lives, and sometimes it’s really f***ing hard. And an uphill battle and a struggle... And sometimes it’s lovely."

Getting emotional, she also advised fans to make the most of the people in their lives while they are there.

“Tell the people you love you love them - and that’s really important because they’re gone very quickly,” she added tearfully.

“And before you know it, your mum and dad aren’t there anymore, or your grandma or grandad or the person that you love most in the world is gone.”

She captioned the post: “I’m not preaching or telling you how to live your lives and I mainly say ‘we’ though I really mean me. This is just a happy birthday message for you lovely people who follow me. Thank you, To everyone, you are just the lulliest.” (sic)

Abbington's exit from Strictly came during reports of a feud between her and Pernice

Earlier this year, Abbington revealed she’d received death threats since she came forward to say she was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following her time on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Sherlock star quit the dance competition suddenly despite receiving largely positive feedback from the judges for her dancing.

Rumours swirled about a “feud” she was apparently in with Pernice, 33. It was later reported Abbington had requested footage of her “tense” training sessions with Pernice after seekinglegal advice.

It was later reported that the BBC wouldn’t be investigating the claims made by Abbington against Pernice.
