Holidaymakers in the Midlands will have more options when booking a getaway

East Midlands Airport is gearing up for an exciting summer with seven fresh routes launching in 2026, plus a brand new airline touching down for the first time.

SunExpress, the joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, will start flying to Antalya in Türkiye from Easter this year.

The airline will operate up to three weekly services through to October, with bookings already live for both flights and holiday packages.

SunExpress has been growing rapidly across Germany and now flies from 14 airports throughout the UK and Ireland.

Jet2 is bringing five new destinations to the mix, giving holidaymakers plenty more choice across central Europe and northern Africa.

For summer, travellers can jet off to three gorgeous Greek spots – Preveza, Thessaloniki and Chania – as well as Pula on Croatia's stunning coastline. When winter rolls around, Agadir in Morocco will be added to the schedule.

There's good news for Channel Islands fans too – Jet2 has introduced extra Jersey flights with new Saturday services running through to October.

TUI has something for sun-seekers too – Sharm El Sheikh is making a comeback this summer. The popular Egyptian resort hasn't been on TUI's schedule for three years, but strong customer demand has brought it back.

Flights will run twice weekly from Easter onwards. It's not the only exciting option from TUI– last summer saw the airline launch brand new routes to Boa Vista in Cape Verde and Burgas along Bulgaria's coast.

Both destinations proved a hit and are returning for 2026, giving travellers even more variety when planning their getaways from the hub.

Passengers flying from East Midlands this year will notice some serious upgrades throughout the terminal.

Over the past two years, the airport has installed next-generation security scanners, refreshed its restaurants, added more seating, improved Wi-Fi, and introduced water refill stations alongside electronic service kiosks.

The Escape Lounge has been extended and spruced up, while a new cashless, barrierless system makes dropping off passengers much smoother.

Before Easter, even more changes are coming – including new shops, upgraded toilets, a quiet room, sensory pods and a dedicated Little Flyers area for young travellers.

Customer services and planning director, Mike Grimes, said: "We are so looking forward to summer 2026, it's going to be great to welcome SunExpress for the first time and to be able to offer new destinations to our customers.

"We're always looking at ways to improve the choice and experience for customers and these new routes, along with ongoing improvements in the terminal, mean that summer 2026 is shaping up to be a great one for everyone who chooses East Midlands for an effortless start to their holidays."
