The festive period often brings cold, dark and wet days to the UK, so it is no surprise many Britons are looking to get away.
In fact, holiday bookings for Christmas week have surged 20 per cent this year, according to new data.
This is according to online travel agency Thomas Cook, who noted the year-on-year rise, and trips to the Canary Islands are looking like Britons' dream escape.
However, it was Egypt which had the biggest jump in demand - up a staggering 136 per cent compared to last year.

Holidays digital director at Thomas Cook, Nicholas Smith, said: "Christmas is such a magical time for so many, and what better way to experience the magic than on holiday?

Britons are most excited about winter sun, although city breaks also feature on the list. The Czech Republic, where many Britons go to visit Prague, has seen a jump of 88 per cent this year.
For holidaymakers who want to indulge on their winter trip, the cheapest all-inclusive winter sun destinations for 2025 have been named, and Tunisia had the biggest bargains.
According to analysis, Tunisia’s coastal resorts have unbeatable value, with all-inclusive packages starting from £328pp.
