Britons don't need to travel far for affordable winter sun

British travellers looking for cheap winter sunshine have plenty of options to choose from this year, according to new research.

It found North African resorts lead the way in budget-friendly all-inclusive breaks. Prices for seven-night stays start from just £328 per person, with Tunisia claiming both top spots in the latest affordability rankings.


Tunisian favourites Hammamet and Sousse top the table for value, both coming in under £360 per person, according to data by TravelSupermarket.

The Canary Islands, Malta and Turkey also deliver strong winter sun options, all under £550pp for an all-inclusive week-long stay.

According to the analysis, Tunisia’s coastal resorts have unbeatable value for Britons, with the Canary Islands, Malta, and Turkey also performing strongly for price and year-round warmth.

Head of holidays and deals at TravelSupermarket, Chris Webber, said: “North Africa is delivering unbeatable value this winter, with Tunisia claiming both top spots for under £360 per person.

“The great news is that real winter sun is the most affordable option, with the top three destinations all guaranteeing temperatures above 20°C. While Malta and Turkey offer slightly cooler conditions around 16°C to 17°C, they more than make up for it with fantastic value and far fewer crowds than peak season.”

In second place is another Tunisian holiday spot. Hardy added: “This cosmopolitan resort caters to every type of traveller. Explore ancient mosaics, shop in the Medina Souk, or unwind on Bou Jaafar Beach before sampling the nightlife in the city’s beach bars and clubs.”

Outside of Tunisia, sun-lovers can set their sights on one of Spain's Canary Islands for cheap prices and relatively warm temperatures, not too far from home.

Hardy continued: “A year-round sunshine favourite. Playa del Matorral is perfect for watersports, and snorkellers can spot turtles and rays in warm, clear waters. February’s Carnival celebrations bring a burst of colour and energy.”
