Cities in the UAE have proved most popular among British expats

There are many reasons why Britons choose to live abroad, whether they want guaranteed sunshine, to experience a new culture or immerse themselves in a different lifestyle.

But where is the best place to relocate? New research has found the world's most popular destinations, with the UAE beating European countries.

Some 61 per cent of Britons have considered relocating, according to a survey by Ignite SEO, and the UAE was praised for having no income tax, offering a luxurious lifestyle, and being an English-speaking country. It also boasts pleasant winter temperatures, between 20°C and 29°C.

Europe dominated the remainder of the top five, with Portugal, Spain, Malta and Cyprus proving popular among expats.

Portugal and Spain both ranked highly for strong expat communities, but cons include "rising rents" for Portugal and "slow bureaucracy" for Spain.

CEO of Ignite SEO London, Adam Collins, said: "This survey shows a clear trend: Britons aren’t just looking for sunshine - they’re looking for financial breathing space.

"While Dubai offers a glamorous zero-tax lifestyle, countries like Georgia and Uruguay are becoming unexpected contenders thanks to simple tax systems and generous residency options."

Indeed, the biggest motivator for expats moving abroad was lower taxes (47 per cent), with better weather (41 per cent), lower cost-of-living (32 per cent) and a good work/life balance (29 per cent) following as important reasons.
