With the cold days of January approaching, Britons might want to jet off in search of some much-needed winter sun. In fact, UK residents made 18.7 million trips abroad during the first quarter of 2025, up from 16.7 million the year before.
While Corfu and Tenerife remain firm favourites for winter warmth, travel experts share hidden gems across Europe where you can escape the crowds without breaking the bank.
They recommended winter sun spots in Spain, Cyprus, Madeira, Sicily and Malta for an early 2026 getaway - and flights start from £34.
Head of digital and engagement at eurochange, Laura Evans-Fisk, said: "There are so many great destinations you can visit across Europe if you're keen to feel that little bit of warmth in January. Places such as Cádiz in Spain and northern Cyprus - away from the popular tourist spots like Paphos and Larnaca - have so much to offer, and are so much quieter."
