The airline will be the first airline in the world to get the new seats

Holidaymakers flying with easyJet are set to enjoy a more comfortable journey thanks to brand new aircraft seats that offer up to two inches of extra legroom.

The budget carrier has just announced a deal with British manufacturer Mirus Aircraft Seating for its next-generation Kestrel economy seats.

EasyJet will be the first airline in the world to get these seats fitted on new planes, with the rollout beginning in 2028.

The Kestrel seats have been designed specifically for short and medium-haul routes, such as weekend getaways and family holidays across Europe.

The lighter seats will be fitted across 237 new Airbus A320neo and A321neo planes as they're delivered from 2028 onwards.

Thanks to the design, passengers get that extra legroom without the airline actually changing the seat pitch.

The Kestrel is the lightest seat in its class, helped by advanced engineering in its structure. The ergonomic design is great for anyone who has ever struggled with knee room on a flight.

The seats feature a unique pre-reclined structure that gives passengers more room for their legs straight away.

And it's not just about passenger comfort; these seats have been built with the planet in mind.

Mirus has kept the design simple with fewer parts, which means less maintenance is needed over time. The robust construction ensures they will last for years in service.

easyJet's chief operating officer, David Morgan, said: "We are delighted to be introducing the Mirus Kestrel seat across our future fleet. This investment supports our continued focus on making our operations as efficient as possible, capitalising on small incremental gains that result in meaningful reductions in fuel burn and CO2 emissions.

"On top of the sustainability benefits, the additional legroom and enhanced comfort these seats will provide will also deliver an improved onboard experience for our customers which we know they'll love."

Chief executive officer, Mirus, Ben McGuire, added :“Mirus is incredibly proud that easyJet, the UK’s largest airline and one of the world’s leading carriers, has placed its trust in us for what represents one of the largest single-model aircraft seat awards ever.

"This landmark agreement marks a defining moment for Mirus and reflects our shared commitment to enhancing passenger experience and comfort, while delivering sustainability and significant operational cost savings through reduced fuel burn and CO emissions.”
