Need inspiration for your 2025 holiday? A trendy Asian city is lining up to be the most popular among Britons this year.

Dubai was named the trendiest travel destination, according to research, but Britons still have a soft spot for regions in Spain.

New data by Booking.com discovered the holiday spots Britons most want to visit based on searches on the travel platform.

For Europe, Barcelona was the most popular destination, followed by Paris, Benidorm and Palma de Mallorca.

  • Barcelona, Spain
  • Paris, France
  • Benidorm, Spain
  • Palma de Mallorca, Spain
  • Albufeira, Portugal
  • Malaga, Spain
  • Antalya, Turkey
  • Marrakech, Morocco

Dubai was named the top trending destination for UK travellers in summer 2025, with searches up 42 per cent on 2024. The willingness to travel further afield could come as 39 per cent of holidaymakers said they are planning to spend more on their holiday than they did last year.

Dubai has grown in popularity as the constantly-developing city pairs great beaches, restaurants and entertainment with guaranteed sunshine.

However, it is worth noting temperatures during the summer can sit above 40°C, so booking for the end or start of the year could make for a more pleasant trip. The city offers "diversity, an incredible mix of entertainment, beaches and city life for all ages and cultures", according to Visit Dubai.

It added: "The year-round warm weather and beautiful sunny settings are further reasons why Dubai has become a frequented holiday destination. The city is also very safe, easily accessible and offers all the modern amenities."

While flights are likely to set travellers back more than if they were visiting Europe, once there, "Dubai is as cheap or expensive as you want it to be".

Europe mostly dominated the top 10, and it is no surprise to see Spanish destinations making up nearly half of the list.

Spain is a firm favourite among Britons due to its beautiful beaches, sunny weather and affordability. It is also only a short flight from the UK.

Barcelona was the highest-ranking part of Spain, and a travel expert recently told holidaymakers it has one of the most underrated beaches in Europe.

He said it blends "seaside charm with urban energy", adding: "You can start your morning with a swim in the Mediterranean, enjoy lunch at one of the beachfront 'chiringuitos' (beach bars) like La Deliciosa or Can Fisher, and then walk just 10 to 15 minutes to explore the Gothic Quarter or see Gaudí’s masterpieces."
