The experts said: "The research ranked the coastal city of Valencia in Spain as the number one city in the world for senior travellers. This city is rich in culture and is even the birthplace of the famous Spanish dish paella, meaning travellers will find plenty of spots to take a break from sightseeing with a warming meal and other refreshments.

"Valencia also has a flat, walkable terrain and an excellent public transport system, making it the perfect place for grandparents and grandchildren alike looking to explore the local area at their own speed."

The Hague, Netherlands – 73.4/100

Dutch cities dominated the top five list, with The Hague named the best. It is a pretty and historical city, with a scenic seaside that will keep the whole family entertained.

The travel pros added: "Three Dutch cities ranked in the top five, the first of which is The Hague in second place. This compact city is the political heart of the Netherlands and is perfect for any grandparents looking to balance city life and nature, as it boasts both soft-sand beaches and a forest that is approximately 100 hectares in size.

"It also scores as one of the safest cities in AllClear’s study, which when combined with the other senior-friendly metrics, like quality of green spaces and ease of moving around, make it one of the best cities in the world for grandparents."

Amsterdam, Netherlands – 71.4/100

One of the most popular Dutch cities among tourists, Amsterdam, also ranked highly. It is easy to get around, has world-famous canals, and it is great for food options and museums.

The experts said: "Amsterdam in the Netherlands claims third place. This city is famed for being exceptionally walkable thanks to its flat terrain, with great public transport links and a pedestrian-first outlook.

"Beyond its youthful buzz, this capital city’s famous canals offer grandparents a relaxing mode of transport for sightseeing. Historical sites such as Anne Frank House, and the nearby open-air museum windmill village of Zaanse Schans all make for a culture-rich trip."

Head of Communications at AllClear, Letitia Smith, added: “Multigenerational travel isn’t rising in popularity for no good reason; it's profoundly rewarding. For many of us, when we think about our most cherished travel memories, it’s rarely the best hotels or meals; it’s who we’ve spent it with.

“To help senior travellers choose their new favourite destination, we wanted to highlight cities that make multi-generational city breaks not only possible, but enjoyable, safe and accessible for everyone.”
