British holidaymakers are thinking long-haul in 2026, as Asian cities rank highly in a new list of where to go this year.

Tokyo claimed the top spot as the ultimate dream destination for British travellers, with two more Japanese holiday destinations making the cut.


The Japanese capital received 62 upvotes from users backing the city, with 19 mentions on Reddit – nearly twice as many as any other destination on the list. This is according to data collated by Titan Travel, who looked at factors such as the percentage of Reddit mentions and the number of upvotes on the platform.

Visitors can explore iconic sites like the Imperial Palace and the famous Shibuya Crossing, while those seeking authentic experiences can wander through outdoor markets or discover the historic Senso-ji Temple.

Kyoto takes second place with an impressive 8.67/10 score, and it's easy to see why British travellers can't resist this ancient gem.

Regarded as Japan's cultural capital, it's the go-to destination for anyone wanting to experience authentic Japanese traditions. The city earned 36 upvotes from Reddit users, showing just how much people value its timeless charm.

There's no shortage of things to do here – from exploring countless temples, castles and shrines to sampling delicious local dishes at bustling food markets.

For adventurous types, the surrounding mountains are just a short trip from the city centre, offering even more to discover.
