X is down with users worldwide reporting issues with using Elon Musk's social media platform.

Tracking website Downdetector has shown a huge spike in outage reports in the past hour.

At the time of writing, over 10,000 reports have been logged with the real-time information platform.

Some have described the troubles they are experiencing on the website, with one user commenting: "I could see people’s posts but then when I clicked on the posts it says nothing to show here yet."

Another joked: "Thank goodness it isn't just me!"

X now appears to be operational once more, with reports plummeting to single figures on Downdetector.

X has experienced several outages within the last year. Elon Musk, who bought the platform in 2022, has said "major operational improvements" are needed.

Earlier this month, Mr Musk said his social media platform was hit by a “massive cyber attack”.

The world’s richest man said IP addresses involved in the attack were traced to “the Ukraine area”.

A hacking group called Dark Steam Team claimed responsibility in a now-deleted series of Telegram posts.

“Twitter has been taken offline by Dark Storm Team”, a post read on the group’s account.

The group was founded in 2023 and has orchestrated cyber attacks against governments and organisations known to support Israel, according to cyber security group Check Point.

They have previously targeted Israeli hospitals, US airports, government websites and other infrastructure services.
