One of the biggest streaming platforms in the world has been hit by an IT outage, with UK and US users unable to listen to their favourite musicians.
Spotify customers are experiencing problems accessing music on the service's app, with users also running into issues with sound quality and searching for content.
Downdetector reported a surge of complaints from Spotify users around 6 pm this evening, which has continued throughout the night.
Based on the outage detector's website, there is close to 7,000 complaints from users prior to 8 pm on May 12, 2026.

| GETTY IMAGESAccording to Downdetector, more than half of the issues cited by customers were with the app at 54 per cent.
Some 18 per cent of users said they experienced server connection errors. Another 18% ran into problems streaming audio.
On a statement posted on X, a spokesperson for Spotify said: "We're aware of some issues right now with the app and are checking them out."
One customer posted on X said: "Why and how is Spotify down? I’ve never experienced this before. I've had Spotify for as long as i can remember, but I’ve never experienced it before today."

With this latest update, users can take a further dive into their own music data and personal history on the app.
Users are able to see a list of their own 120 personal top tracks, as well as their what they listened to on their first day on Spotify and unique songs they have listened to.
