Sky says you could save £100 compared to a comparable Ring subscription

Sky Smart Home is a brand-new subscription from the broadcaster designed to compete with Ring, Eufy, and Nest.

This one-stop-shop package is designed to bring together everything you'd need to keep a close eye on your property, family members, and belongings when you're not around. It starts from just £5 a month.

According to Sky, switching from a Ring subscription to its solution could save you £100. It was only two-years ago that Amazon-owned Ring decided to hike subscription prices by 42%, removing basic functionality from its cameras for those who refused to pay the monthly fee.

The new security subscription is available now in two standadlone bundles.

Sky has a standalone Smart Home mobile app to manage your security devices, two-way talk to chat via the cameras, and check on leak detectors and motion sensors

First up, the Smart Doorbell with Smart Home Plan. It carries a £15 upfront cost and a £5 monthly subscription.

This entry-level bundle includes the Sky Smart Doorbell, which boasts a 1080p HD camera with Night Vision so you can check on delivery drivers, friends and family, or suspicious characters hanging around your front door from anywhere.

The entry-level Smart Doorbell with Smart Home Plan includes the doorbell with 1080p HD video capture with support for automatic motion alerts, Night Vision, and two-way talk. Sky also throws-in a Chime to bring the sound of a doorbell throughout your home. Everything is managed by the dedicated mobile app

With the push of a button, you can speak to someone at your door from the app. You'll also be automatically alerted when someone presses the bell, or triggers the motion sensor. Sky will also throw-in a Chime that plugs into the mains and brings the traditional sound of a doorbell to your home with no wiring needed.

By default, Sky offers 30-day cloud video recording – with anything captured by the doorbell backed-up to its servers, where you can review or download the footage anytime over the next month. There's also customisable activity zones, so you can easily carve-out a busy road or area outside of your property to avoid unwanted motion alerts.

Alternatively, Sky offers a Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+. With a £20 upfront cost and a £8 monthly subscription, this is a slightly pricier option. It comes with everything listed above in the Smart Home Plan, but also adds an indoors security camera and additional features built into the mobile app.

Like the video doorbell, Sky's Indoor Camera supports 1080p HD video recording, Night Vision to peer through the gloom, and a microphone to listen in to what's happening.

You can also use two-way talk to speak to anyone who is captured on-camera. Motion alerts are also included with the indoor camera, and the same 30-day cloud backup.

You'll need the pricier Smart Home Plan+ subscription to add additional gadgets, like the leak detector sold separately by Sky TV

With the mobile app, Sky will let you schedule and auto-arm device modes, so everything stops recording when you arrive home, or only records in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep.

If you want to add any of the optional leak detectors, contact or motion sensors available to buy direct from the Sky Store, you'll need this plan.

From checking deliveries, answering the door remotely, keeping an eye on pets, or alerting you to a leak when you're away on holiday, Sky Smart Home is designed to catch crucial moments when you're not there.
