You don't need to be at the end of your current contract to switch today

New year, new broadband supplier? If you want to shake up your monthly outgoings by switching to a new broadband firm, there are competing offers from two of the biggest internet brands.

Sky Broadband is offering its full-fibre internet from as little as £26 per month for 100Mbps, rising to £32 for 500Mbps download speeds — the "most popular" plan in the lineup, according to Sky — and £38 for the speediest 900Mbps package. None of these broadband plans command an upfront cost, so you won't need to pay more than the first month's subscription fee to get started with your new internet subscription.

For the fastest full-fibre plans, Sky Broadband will send you its Gigafast+ hub, which is equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology – promising better juggling between multiple devices on the same network, strong signal throughout your home, and speedier wired and wireless connections.

Sky Broadband will cover up to £200 in early exit fees from your existing broadband supplier, so you can ditch your current contract and switch to its latest offers. You'll just need to send proof of the charges to Sky Broadband within 90 days of signing up for the new deal, and you'll be reimbursed

Switch to Sky Broadband's 'most popular' 500Mbps Full Fibre Broadband

Sky Broadband highlights its Full Fibre 500 plan as the "most popular" choice with subscribers. With a guaranteed minimum download speed of 500Mbps, you can be sure to enjoy stutter-free access on your favourite streaming service, online multiplayer games, FaceTime calls, and more. That's enough bandwidth to juggle multiple devices, including video doorbells, security cameras, smart speakers, and others

Some estimates suggest around 60% of all UK households are out-of-contract with their current broadband supplier, although Broadband Genie figures suggest it's around 8.8 million nationwide.

That means there are no restrictions on whether you're able to ditch your current provider and switch to a new deal – unlocking lower monthly bills and faster downloads. Not only that, most telecoms increase your bills each year, so the longer that you stick with the same provider, the more you'll end up paying for the same speeds and service.

Loyalty only ends up costing you more, so it's a really good idea to switch as often as you're able to.

Even if you're not at the end of your current contract, Sky Broadband will pay up to £200 towards early exit fees. This is a great way to switch to a better deal ahead of schedule, or combine your broadband bills with streaming TV or other subscription services.

In order to claim the £200, you must send proof of your payments to your previous broadband provider within 90 days of your Sky services being activated — and it'll transfer the exact amount.

But EE is even more generous.

The BT-owned telecom will transfer up to £300 to cover any early exit fees if you're still in contract with your current supplier. That'll cover more months of your existing deal — meaning you'll be able to leave earlier, or ditch a more expensive subscription to switch to something new from EE.

Like Sky Broadband, EE has waived all upfront costs, so you'll be able to switch to the new package without paying any more than the first month's bills. When it comes to costs, EE is slightly pricier than Sky Broadband.

For its full-fibre broadband with 100Mbps speeds, EE charges £29.99 per month. You can upgrade to 3x faster speeds for an extra £3 per month, with EE charging just £32.99 per month for 300Mbps, £34.99 per month for 500Mbps, and £39.99 per month for the maxed-out 900Mbps.

If you already have an EE SIM tucked inside your phone, you'll unlock extra perks via EE One.

This nets you an exclusive monthly saving of up to £20 when you add an unlimited data SIM to your broadband plan. Make further savings on each additional SIM you add. All new SIM-Only plans are on monthly rolling contracts, so you can ditch or switch to another SIM deal at a moment's notice.

If you want faster downloads, EE Full Fibre 300 costs just £3 more than its entry-level Full Fibre 100 package. Despite the small difference in cost, this should make a dramatic difference to your streaming habits — with 3x faster speeds, so streaming, online multiplayer, video calls, and backups to the cloud are faster than ever

With everything managed via the EE app on iPhone or Android, you can add strict parental controls across both your SIM-Only plans and home broadband. This will restrict what younger family members can access and see when connected to Wi-Fi inside the house and outside via a 5G signal.

While Sky Broadband reserves its all-singing, all-dancing Wi-Fi 7 router for those on the speediest plans, EE is the only telecom that offers these next-generation speeds and improved reliability as standard.

Dubbed the EE Smart Hub 7 Plus, this slimline new router offers wireless speeds up to 1Gbps — that's 30% faster Wi-Fi throughput compared to the previous EE Smart Hub 6 Plus. That extra capacity isn't just about the fastest downloads possible, it's also useful when juggling more devices on the same network.

According to EE, UK households now average over 25 devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Five years ago, most of us had just seven devices connected to our Wi-Fi network.

This increase shows the explosion in smart home gadgets (video doorbells, smart thermostats, wireless speakers, Smart TVs, to name just a few) in recent years, placing more strain on ageing Wi-Fi setups.

The extra bandwidth provided by Wi-Fi 7 makes it much easier to keep everything connected.
