You'll be able to tune-in with your existing hardware

Roku is bringing 40 new channels to your television with its next update — and they won't cost you a penny.

The new additions, set to debut in the UK on Roku devices from early October, will be Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV, better known as FAST channels. For those who don't know, FAST channels don't require any sign-ups or subscriptions.

Just turn on your Roku streaming device or Smart TV — and enjoy. The ad-supported channels will broadcast a wide variety of content, from lifestyle and classic TV shows to true crime documentaries and sports.

The new additions to Roku include PGA TOUR for golf, This Old House for home and garden, Unsolved Mysteries for crime, NatureTime for wildlife, Love Pets for animals and more. These channels are broadcast over the internet 24/, so there's no need to worry about an aerial and you can tune in anytime.

More details on the full lineup of channels will be announced ahead of the October launch.

This marks the first time that Roku has added FAST channels to its devices in the UK. However, the brand already has a proven track record with the successful rollout of FAST channels in North and South America.

Roku UK Country Manager, Richard Halton told GB News: "With the launch of our first FAST channels in the UK this October, we’re giving viewers more choice than ever before – from iconic series and films to new favourites and niche genres – all for free. It’s an exciting step forward as we continue to expand and open up new opportunities for advertisers to reach highly engaged audiences."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

When these new channels launch, you'll be able to find everything in The Roku Channel app on your Smart TV or streaming set-top box. Roku has added a new Live TV zone in the interface to makes browsing even easier.

Roku is the top streaming platform in the United States, Canada, and Mexico based on hours streamed.

The incoming 40 channels will work with other recent additions to the Roku software, like What to Watch feature, which recommends new content to discover from across all streaming services installed on your Roku. The brand recently launched two new streaming players in the UK too.

The pair of next-generation devices, dubbed the Roku Streaming Stick (£29.99) and Roku Streaming Stick Plus (£39.99), launched earlier this summer with faster performance and a more compact design.

The Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus plug into the HDMI port at the back of your telly, bringing boxsets and blockbusters from thousands of streaming services, as well as games to the big screen.

Compared to previous models from Roku, these new devices can be powered directly by the television, eliminating the need for hanging cables and delivering a cleaner, more streamlined setup.

According to Roku, the new design is 35% smaller than rival offerings, despite shipping with more power underneath the bonnet. This svelte new size should make it easier to pack a Roku device with you when travelling, so you can continue watching your favourite shows on a hotel TV or at a friend's house.
