The feverishly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console is coming to the UK on June 5, 2025.

Prices start from £395.99for the console alone. For a limited time, Nintendo is also selling a bundle with the Switch 2 console and a download code for its brand-new Mario Kart World game for £429.99.

Given that Mario Kart World alone costs£74.99 for a physical Game Card, and £66.99 as a digital purchase from the eShop, the Switch 2 bundle represents a decent saving. Other Switch 2 games will vary in price, with the new Donkey Kong Bananza title, which was announced during the same 60-minute Direct presentation as the console, will be slightly cheaper at £66.99 for all versions.

Nintendo Switch is the second-best-selling console of all time, with a chance that it'll overtake the PlayStation 2 in the coming months to claim the top spot on the podium. As such, Nintendo is anticipating huge demand for its successor, Switch 2.

In a bid to avoid the stock shortages that plagued the release of the Sony PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo imposed several requirements to be eligible to place a Switch 2 preorder from the official Nintendo online store. The measures were designed to stop scalpers and bots from securing Switch 2 consoles — only to resell them at an inflation price on auction websites.

When Switch 2 preorders went live in the UK on April 8, anyone looking to order from Nintendo had to meet the following restrictions:

  1. Subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for at least two years continuously by March 31, 2025
  2. Need an active Nintendo Switch Online membershipon the day the Switch 2 preorder is placed
  3. Spent a certain amount of time playing purchased / paid Nintendo Switch games — Nintendo will prioritise shoppers with the most hours clocked up on their original Switch console
  4. Opted to share console usage information with Nintendo to customise offers and recommendations
  5. Agreed to receive promotional emails and messages from Nintendo

It seems the tough measures worked. Some 48 days after UK preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live, the Japanese gaming firm has relaxed the conditions, dropping 4 out of 5 requirements.

Nintendo has removed four out of five requirements for its Switch 2 preorders. Your chance of ordering one of these must-have game consoles on release day on June 5, 2025 is no longer predicated on the number of hours you've spent playing games or agreeing to share console usage data with Nintendo. As long as you hold a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online today, you can preorder the console ready for delivery on launch day

Starting now, you need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to preorder the Switch 2. That's it.

The restriction applies to both the Nintendo Switch 2 console + Mario Kart World bundle for £429.99 and the standalone Switch 2 console for £395.99 when bought from the Nintendo online store.

If you don't already have a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online, prices start from £3.49 per month, with an annual membership costing £17.99. You can subscribe from the MyNintendo store, or enjoy 26% off that price by purchasing a code from CDKeys. Amazon also sells codes that activate an annual subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.
