  • Eufy has unveiled a clever new solution to conquer the stairs
  • Dubbed MarsWalker, this tank-like droid carries your vacuum
  • It can handle straight, L-shaped, or U-shaped staircases
  • That should enable it to clean most British homes top-to-bottom
  • First robot vacuum to be compatible is the Omni S2 from Eufy

The best robot vacuum cleaners can be an incredible timesaver. These clever 'bots will handle the cleaning for you, with some models even mopping hardwood floors after the vacuuming is done.

However, these autonomous cleaners have always had one insurmountable nemesis: stairs.

If you've ever wished your robot vacuum could trundle upstairs without any assistance, you're about to get your wish. Eufy has revealed a groundbreaking new product at the IFA tradeshow in Berlin, Germany.

It's called MarsWalker, a clever device with tank-like treads that carries robot vacuums between floors.

This first-of-its-kind gadget should solve the biggest headache when looking to buy robot vacuums in a multi-storey home — no more lugging your 'bot upstairs or buying separate units for each floor. Instead, the Eufy MarsWalker works with the existing Omni S2 robot vacuum. The latter handles the cleaning, and when it's finished on a floor, it docks into the MarsWalker to ascend or descend to the next.

Get up to £400 off Eufy robot vacuum cleaners

Want to upgrade to the latest robot vacuums from Eufy? While the MarsWalker won't be releasing until 2026, you can switch to one of the brand's newest models now and unlock a whopping £400 off

Eufy Robot Vacuums

Given that we were floored by the announcement of a robot vacuum cleaner that could climb a single step at the IFA tradeshow last autumn, it's incredible the advancements that have taken place in the last 12 months.

How has Eufy managed to conquer the eternal enemy of robot vacuum cleaners (and the Darleks)?

The incoming MarsWalker accessory relies on four powerful robotic arms that move independently, paired with a track-drive system that grips each step as it climbs. Think of it as a stairlift for your vacuum – the robot docks inside the MarsWalker, which then carries it up or down to the next floor.

Parent company Anker says its MarsWalker has been designed to recognise all the common staircases found across the UK, whether you've got straight stairs, L-shaped ones that turn at a landing, or U-shaped stairs that double back.

The device builds a 3D map of your entire home to understand where it needs to go. Once it reaches the destination floor, the vacuum exits to continue cleaning or heads to its charging station.

Eufy says you'll need to wait until spring 2026 to get your hands on one, and there's no word on price.

The Omni S2 robot vacuum cleaner that pairs with the MarsWalker is quite the powerhouse itself. It boasts 30,000pascals of suction – that's seriously strong – and can both vacuum and mop with 15 newtons of downward pressure for proper scrubbing.

Something that sets it apart from the competition — it releases pleasant fragrances while cleaning. You can choose from scents like citrus and basil, bamboo and sage, or bergamot and lychee. It's like having an air freshener built into your vacuum.

The S2 comes with all the bells and whistles you'd expect from a top-tier robot vacuum – a self-emptying dock that washes and dries the mop, refills water, and even sterilises the brush rollers. It'll set you back $1,599 (£1,180 converted) when it launches, starting in the United States from January 2026.

You might be wondering how this compares to other attempts at stair-climbing robots. While Roborock showed off the Saros Z70 with its mechanical arm, that is designed for picking up objects, not climbing stairs. The Dreame X50 Ultra can handle thresholds up to three inches, but that's nowhere near a full flight of stairs.

What makes the MarsWalker so unique is that it's a dedicated solution that actually works.

You're not getting a robot that awkwardly tries to crawl up each step – instead, you've got a proper transport system that smoothly carries your vacuum between floors. It's a bit like having two robots working together, which might seem excessive until you realise the alternative is either carrying your vacuum yourself or buying multiple units.

This way, you get genuine whole-home automation without the faff.

The MarsWalker is expected to arrive in the first half of 2026, though Eufy hasn't revealed pricing yet. Given that the Omni S2 alone costs $1,599, you can expect the MarsWalker to add a significant amount to that total.

Still, when you consider the alternative – buying separate vacuums for each floor or constantly carrying one up and down – it might actually work out as a decent value. This could genuinely transform how robot vacuums work in British homes with multiple floors.

It's worth noting that MarsWalker will only work with select Eufy models at launch, not third-party vacuums. But if it delivers on its promise, you're looking at the biggest leap forward in robot vacuum technology in years.
