The screen issue affects Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL models

  • All-new Google Pixel 10 lineup is experiencing screen issues
  • Called "screen snow", the touchscreen only shows colourful static
  • The software bug surfaced less than 3 weeks after Pixel 10 release date
  • Google has raced to create a software update to fix the glitch
  • Android update has fixed screen show for some others
  • However, some Pixel 10 owners continue to experience issues

If you've been experiencing problems with the screen on your brand-new Google Pixel 10 or 10 Pro, you're not alone. There have been multiple reports of so-called "screen snow" appearing on these devices a little over a fortnight after these flagship Android smartphones launched in the UK and worldwide.

The issue seemingly impacts Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL models, which were released by Google on August 25. In fact, the only new Pixel model that doesn't have display issues is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

If you've upgraded to one of the handsets and are impacted by the glitch, your touchscreen will suddenly freeze and start displaying colourful static that resembles a broken television set. Google has raced to fix the issue.

The Californian company is already pushing out a software patch to fix the screen snow that's plagued devices since their release date last month. Google acknowledged the problem in a statement to Android Authority, confirming they "began rolling out fixes on Sept. 3 with more to follow in the coming weeks." The fix will be released as part of the September 2025 security update, which is gradually being rolled out to devices.

To update your device, follow these steps:

  • Open the Settings app
  • Navigate to System > Software Updates
  • Check for any available updates

If you haven't received the update yet, keep checking regularly as the global rollout continues gradually.

The screen snow problem can leave you staring at a frozen display covered in pink and colourful static lines. When this happens, your phone becomes completely unresponsive, though the touchscreen remains technically functional beneath the static.

Users on Reddit have reported the glitch lasting more than 10 minutes before the display returns to normal. One Reddit user mentioned they had to use the voice command "Hey Google" in order to get the phone to restart.

The fault appears randomly — some encountered it while browsing YouTube, while others were hit during regular phone use. The device doesn't overheat when the problem occurs, suggesting it's a software rather than a hardware issue.

Industry experts believe this changelog entry actually addresses the static screen problem, suggesting Google chose to describe the issue more broadly.

Despite the indirect wording, users who install the patch report that their display problems have disappeared. The fix appears to target the graphics components or display drivers responsible for the static-filled screens, though Google hasn't confirmed the technical specifics.

If you've already installed the September update, your device should now be free from the display freezing issue. Those still waiting can expect the patch to arrive through automatic system updates over the coming days.

Early feedback from users confirms the fix works effectively.

However, some Reddit discussions have claimed they're still experiencing the issue.
