Whatever you do, do not add that Kindle Paperwhite or Amazon Echo Dot to your basket.
Yes, if you're considering an upgrade to your reading or smart home gadgets, you might want to hold your breath for a fortnight. That's because Amazon is preparing to unveil its latest products, and we're expecting to see all-new iterations of the likes of the Echo, Kindle, Fire TV Stick, Fire Tablets, and other beloved Amazon gadgets.
The Seattle-based retailer sent out invitations for its Devices and Services event, which will be held in New York City on September 30, marking its return to large-scale hardware announcements. This next keynote will be the second major Amazon announcement in a year, after Amazon launched its Alexa+ service in back in February.
We're widely expecting to see a slew of new hardware to use with this rebooted AI service.
Amazon's event invitation, pictured above, teases the possibility of new arrivals, including new Echo speakers, Fire devices, potential AR smart glasses, and a new Kindle with a stylus

Amazon's event invitation, pictured above, offers some tantalising clues about what's in the works. The invitation is divided into four sections, each giving a teaser of the different products:
- Echo Speakers: Two glowing blue LED rings suggest new Echo smart speakers are in development
- Fire Devices: One section appears to show a wave crashing on-screen of a Fire TV or a Fire tablet
- Potential AR smart glasses: If true, this would be Amazon's first entry into this category
- Kindle with Stylus: The most exciting hint shows a Kindle device with text reading "with the stroke of a pen." This suggests Amazon may be introducing stylus support to a colour e-ink Kindle – a major upgrade from current models, which force shoppers to choose between colour or stylus support
If Amazon delivers on everything teased in that invite, it's sure to be a packed keynote.
Unlike the latest Apple Event or Google Pixel 10 launch event, Amazon doesn't typically offer the ability to stream its events and follow along at home. According to the company, its latest device refresh starts from 10am ET in New York City, so we'll start to hear about the new gadgets from 3pm BST.
The Amazon Echo is a smart speaker powered by Alexa, Amazon’s virtual assistant. It allows users to play music, control smart home devices, set reminders, get news and weather updates, and even shop online—entirely through voice commands
| AMAZON PRESS OFFICE | GBNArtificial Intelligence (AI) enhancements are also expected to be the star of Amazon's announcements.
The company has been testing out its new-and-improved Alexa+ service since the announcement earlier this year. Alexa+ required a “complete rearchitecture” to make the chatty AI a smarter personal assistant.
As part of the upgrade, voice-activated assistant Alexa will be able to seamlessly move between different services to complete a request.
As it stands, Alexa can only compute and complete single commands at a time.
In one example shown during its last major keynote, Alexa+ was able to locate a local restaurant, book a table, add it to the family calendar, then follow up with a text to a babysitter about the plans. All of this happens off the back of a single spoken command.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy provided encouraging updates during a July earnings call, revealing that "millions of customers have access now" to the early version of Alexa+. He noted they're "seeing very positive feedback" and plan to continue refining the experience. At the time of writing, Alexa+ remains restricted to users in the United States, with no availability for those in the UK.
According to Mr. Jassy, customers are excited about purchasing devices with built-in Alexa+ capabilities. The upgraded assistant can handle complex tasks like summarising texts, emails, and intricate topics - a significant leap from previous versions.
The bottom-left corner of Amazon's invitation features what could be a television screen or the display of a new Fire Tablet, suggesting that new updates are coming to the Fire TV product family.
The last new addition to the lineup of Fire TVs was the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED launched in November last year and designed to compete toe-to-toe with top-of-the-line flatscreens from Samsung, Hisense, and TCL.
It was released alongside a second-generation version of 4K Ultra HD-equipped Fire TV 4-Series 4K.
With the first anniversary of these rebooted Smart TVs fast-approaching, it's possible that Amazon is planning to refresh the entire lineup to better compete with rivals like Roku. With streaming wars intensifying and smart TV capabilities becoming more sophisticated, Amazon may need to strengthen its hardware game to maintain relevance against established players and emerging competitors.
Though the invitation's display imagery could hint at new Fire tablets, the bigger story lies in Amazon's reported strategic pivot. Last month, Reuters uncovered compelling insider information suggesting Amazon plans to abandon Fire OS entirely for its tablet lineup.
There's also speculation about potential AR smart glasses, internally codenamed "Jayhawk."
These would reportedly feature microphones, speakers, a camera, and a single-eye colour display, positioning Amazon to compete with Meta and Google in the wearables market. This announcement would also closely follow the latest Meta Connect showcase, where new AR glasses are expected.
The event begins at 3pm BST on September 30th. While Amazon typically doesn't livestream these announcements, stay tuned to GBN Tech as we provide you with the latest announcements and reactions.
