Casper Ruud beat Gael Monfils to make the third round of the competition on Wednesday

Casper Ruud appeared to aim a brutal dig at Emma Raducanu after his US Open win over Gael Monfils on Wednesday.

The Norwegian beat his French opponent 6-4, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 to make the third round of the competition.

Raducanu, meanwhile, recently sparked a backlash by saying that the US Open 'didn't feel different at all' without Andy Murray.

Murray retired from tennis earlier this month after playing in the doubles of the Paris Olympics alongside Dan Evans.

Raducanu said: "No, it doesn’t feel different at all.

"I think tennis is unforgiving in that sense no matter who you are. It just moves on. There’s always another match; there’s always another tournament."

Raducanu was accused of disrespecting Murray, with many fans unhappy with her comments.

And Ruud now appears to have aimed a dig at the 21-year-old on social media.

During his win over Monfils, the Norweigan won a point by covering the width of the court multiple times.

He has since taken to X to dedicate a point to Murray - and also aimed a dig by saying the former world No 1 would be missed, despite Raducanu's comments.

"A tribute point to @andy_murray , you’re missed over here!" he said.

Ruud was seemingly referencing Murray's similar point against Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open last year.

He is set to play against Shang Juncheng in the third round of the competition later today.

Raducanu, meanwhile, was emotional after losing to Sofia Kenin on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old is yet to make the second round of the US Open since winning the prestigious competition three years ago.

Raducanu was asked about her schedule, having played just one hard-court tournament before the final Grand Slam of the year.

And the tennis star admitted to regrets after seeing her hopes of a major go up in smoke.

"I would have probably preferred to play a little bit more," she said.

"I know when I have a lot of matches, just like every player, you feel really good, you feel like everything's automatic.

"I can learn from it. And, you know, manage my schedule slightly differently.

"It wasn't just me. It was more of like a collective call and that's what happened, and I can't really change it."

She added: "Yeah, I feel down, like I feel sad. This is a tournament I really want to do well in.

"I'm just going to go back to the drawing board and train and analyse where I went wrong and try and improve for the rest of the season.

"Obviously, the slams are over for this year, but it's not actually that long until Australia comes around again."
