Nick Kyrgios is in Melbourne to work in commentary at the Australian Open with Eurosport.

Nick Kyrgios has given a taste of what's to come from him as an Australian Open commentator by taking aim at Pat Cash, Boris Becker and John McEnroe.

Kyrgios confirmed last month that he wouldn't be back in time to play at the Australian Open, but he will be at the major in some capacity throughout.

Kyrgios used Becker's time in jail during their war of words online and branded the tennis icon a "doughnut".

But the 28-year-old is embracing the possible tension between himself and Becker if they end up working together.

"For the sport and for Eurosport, I actually think it's really good because I think it will create a bit of tension there and people will tune in," he told Daily Mail Australia.

"I understand, my parents are old as well... they're stubborn and stuck in their ways.

"I'm going to see Boris, and I'm going to keep my stance and it's going to be fun. I'm looking forward to it. Regardless, it's going to be entertaining."

Kyrgios also proved that he's not afraid of ruffling some feathers Down Under in response to Cash calling the Australian Open crowd "a little out of control".

"[It was an] Absolutely stupid comment by another old head that has no idea how marketing or how things work in today's day and age," he added.

"You need entertainment. This generation doesn't have a long attention span. That's why you see clips on Instagram rolling. They're 15-20 seconds long.

"Someone like Pat Cash wouldn't be able to grasp that concept. And I'm not taking anything away from Pat Cash.

"Incredible player of his generation, but we need to continue to make the sport grow for fans everywhere."

Kyrgios is set to join the likes of McEnroe and Tim Henman in the commentary booth throughout the tournament.

American tennis icon McEnroe has been a stalwart in commentary ever since retiring and is seen as a staple of the sport's coverage.

But Kyrgios feels he's ready to challenge McEnroe's place in the commentary box due to his age and experience.

"It's incredible to have guys like McEnroe, this old generation in and talking about it, but the sport's evolved," he said.

"You got guys like Tiafoe, you got these young guys Sinner, Alcaraz. This is a new generation.

"I've spent time with these people. I've been in the same locker room, I've eaten with them, I've showered with them, I've played against them. It gives the viewers a different concept of tennis.

"That new spiel is important for the viewers to continue to help the sport grow big time."
