Jannik Sinner has opened up on a bet he made with his coach before his sensational Wimbledon final victory over Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.
Sinner won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to secure glory at the All England Club, just weeks after he'd lost to the same opponent in the final of the French Open.
Alcaraz had been the favourite going into the clash given his status as two-time, and defending, champion.
However, despite the Spaniard's talent, he was unable to cope with Sinner's quality as the 23-year-old claimed tennis' ultimate prize.

Speaking after his victory on Centre Court, Sinner revealed he'd made a bet with coach Darren Cahill.
Cahill is poised to retire from coaching at the end of the current tennis season.
Sinner, however, clearly wants him to stay.
He said: "We made a bet before the final. I told him that if I won, I could choose whether he would stay at the end of the year or not. Now the choice is mine!"

Sinner also lavished praise on Cahill and the qualities he possesses, with the duo working together ever since 2022.
"I've always looked for an honest person who gives me so much, not just on the tennis court, but also in life outside, both in success and disappointment. He's great at that," he said.
"If I choose to stay with him, he probably won't travel so much anymore, that's normal.
"I've always told him I'd like to have him in Australia, because things are going well.

"Plus, the season is still long, there are still a lot of tournaments to go, and I'll still see him a lot. But I won the bet, now we'll see."
Cahill, meanwhile, was pleased for Sinner.
Some had questioned the Italian's mental strength after he'd collapsed at last month's French Open, despite possessing a two set lead.
Cahill, however, has nothing but positive things to say about the youngster.

“Today was important for many, many reasons,” he said.
“Carlos has had the wood over him for the last five matches. They’ve played amazing matches, and Jannik has had chances in maybe four of the five matches they’ve played to beat him.
“Hasn’t been able to get the victory.
"So today was important not just because it was a Grand Slam final, not just because it was Wimbledon, and not just because Carlos had won the last five matches against him.

"He needed that win today. So he knew the importance of closing this one out when he had the opportunity.
“With that, I think you saw a bit more energy from him in the big moments and a bit more focus to knuckle down and make sure that when he had his nose in front, he kept on closing the door against Carlos. He did an amazing job with that today.”
