Sinner, meanwhile, was delighted after etching his name into the history books.
His win at Wimbledon comes just weeks after he'd lost a French Open classic to Alcaraz at Roland Garros.
"I would like to start with Carlos [Alcaraz], again an amazing tournament and mostly thank you for the player you are," he stated.
"It is so difficult to play you but we have a great relationship off the court. Keep going, keep pushing, you are going to hold this trophy many times - you already have twice!

"It's so special because seeing my parents here, my brother, my whole team, it's amazing.
"A special thanks to my brother, because there's no Formula 1 race this weekend, that is why he is here."
When asked what it had taken to win, he continued: "I would say mostly emotionally because I had a very tough loss in Paris.
"But at the end of the day it doesn't matter how you win or you lose, at important tournaments you just have to understand what you did wrong and work on that. We tried to accept the loss and keep working. For sure that is one of the reasons why I am holding this trophy. Having this means a lot."
