The tennis star called for the doctors during Monday's first-round match

Emma Raducanu was forced to call for the doctors at the French Open during her first round match with Wang Xinyu on Monday.

The 22-year-old is playing at Roland Garros for just the second time in her career but was left needing medical attention while 6-5 up in the first set.

Raducanu was seen rubbing ice on her eyes and drinking some water as she talked with staff about her issue.

The Briton was also seen having her blood pressure taken while attempting to stay hydrated in Paris.

Several minutes ticked on by, with French Open fans anxiously waiting to see whether Raducanu would be able to return to action.

She has since carried on playing, however, with the 2021 US Open champion determined to make it through.

Raducanu broke Wang in the fifth game of the match but, as she went to close out the set, was then broken herself.

At 5-5, Raducanu secured another break of serve and was then able to take the first set - despite needing attention from the doctors mere minutes earlier.

Meanwhile, speaking before the competition at Roland Garros, Raducanu opened up on coach Mark Pethey.

The duo will spend eight weeks working together but with Petchey a broadcaster, it's unclear what the future holds.

And Raducanu has admitted she's enjoyed working with the former tennis star, saying: “It [their alliance] completely depends on the schedule that he gets here, I knew that going into it.

“I think for him it’s a great opportunity to keep doing what he does so well and at the same time have fun hopefully being on court with me.

"I have Tom [Walsh] here who is going to help and Jane [O'Donaghue], when he isn’t available. And that’s how it’s going to go.

“I think being a lot more self-sufficient is something Mark has helped me with the last few weeks.

"Since Miami I think one thing that is a great sign of a coach is when you don’t necessarily feel like you need them every shot, every point, so he’s really helped me to figure things out for myself.”

Speaking about her fellow Briton, Raducanu admitted she hoped he'd 'forgiven' her after she was forced to pull out of the mixed doubles at Wimbledon last year.

She continued: “I hope he’s forgiven me for last year, I still feel bad about it.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him around and having a conversation.

“I think he would give great advice, he’s been in a similar situation and would probably understand a lot of things that I’m also going through.

"But as to anything more, I don’t know, that’s very far out of thought.”
