Didier Deschamps' men will be aiming to go all the way in North America this summer

Emmanuel Macron's meeting with France's World Cup squad has been overshadowed by reports of growing frustration among Didier Deschamps' players ahead of the tournament.

Members of the national team were apparently left unhappy after learning how many tickets they would receive for family and friends during the World Cup.

The issue emerged during discussions with French Football Federation officials as preparations continue for this summer's tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Players were reportedly informed that each member of the squad would receive two complimentary tickets per match, with the option of purchasing an additional six.

The allocation is said to have gone down poorly within the camp, with several players believing the number available was insufficient given the scale of the tournament and the distance supporters will have to travel.

French outlet L'Equipe reported that the decision prompted tense exchanges, with players expressing their disappointment during meetings with federation representatives.

The development comes just months after the squad agreed to changes involving World Cup bonus payments.

Earlier this year, players were asked to accept a revised structure that could see certain payments delayed until the latter stages of the competition in an effort to increase the overall prize pool.

Those proposals were reportedly received positively by the squad.

However, the latest ticket allocation appears to have generated a far less favourable reaction.

The discussions took place on the same day France's players gathered at Clairefontaine, the country's national training centre, for official photographs alongside President Macron and his wife Brigitte.

Macron has maintained close links with the national side and recently welcomed several France internationals to the Elysee Palace following Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League triumph.

Among those present were Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Lucas Hernandez, Bradley Barcola and Warren Zaire-Emery.

Arsenal defender William Saliba was also involved after joining up with the squad following the Gunners' European final defeat.

France are expected to depart for North America next week as they begin the final phase of preparations for another World Cup challenge.

Deschamps' side will first play two friendly matches on home soil before travelling across the Atlantic.

The 2018 world champions and 2022 runners-up will be based near Boston for much of the tournament and are scheduled to open their campaign against Senegal in New Jersey on June 16.

Further group-stage fixtures against Iraq and Norway will follow.

Despite being handed what many observers have labelled a difficult group, France remain among the favourites to challenge for the trophy.

The squad boasts a wealth of talent including Kylian Mbappe, Dembele and rising star Rayan Cherki, with expectations once again high.

The expanded tournament format also means more teams than ever will progress beyond the group stage, increasing the likelihood of France reaching the knockout rounds.
