Carlos Alcaraz is looking to defend his Wimbledon crown

Carlos Alcaraz brought British hopes at Wimbledon to an end with a commanding 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cameron Norrie on Centre Court.

The defending champion required just one hour and 39 minutes to dispatch the British No 3 in Tuesday evening's quarter-final clash.

Norrie became the final home player to exit the tournament after a record 23 Britons entered the men's and women's singles - the highest number since 1984.

The left-hander fought hard but could not match Alcaraz's superior serving and dominance from the back of the court, as the Spaniard put on a stylish display.

Norrie's quarter-final exit fell one short of his previous best performance at the All England Club, where he reached the semi-finals in 2022 before losing to Novak Djokovic.

The British player failed to convert any of his five break points across the three sets against an inspired Alcaraz.

The Spaniard served superbly and showed beautiful touch throughout, littering points with drop shots whilst controlling the baseline exchanges.

Despite his defeat, Norrie will rise back to 43rd in the world rankings on Monday, having dropped as low as 91st in April.

Alcaraz advances to Thursday's semi-finals where he will face fifth seed Taylor Fritz, continuing his bid for a third consecutive Wimbledon title.

The 22-year-old world No 2 is now unbeaten in 23 matches, a streak that includes victories at the Rome Masters, French Open, and Queen's Club.

The five-time Grand Slam champion has not lost at Wimbledon for three years and is now just two wins away from claiming his third straight title at SW19.

Alcaraz came through his quarter-final unscathed and appears in supreme form as he pursues another championship.

The tournament saw disappointing early exits for several prominent British players, with Jack Draper suffering a second-round defeat to Marin Cilic despite being seeded fourth - the highest ranking for a home player since Andy Murray in 2017.

Emma Raducanu was knocked out in the third round by world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling encounter.

Sonay Kartal achieved the best women's singles run, reaching the last 16 before losing to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Norrie will bank £400,000 for his quarter-final appearance, whilst other British players including Katie Boulter crashed out in earlier rounds.
