Sir Andy Murray has disclosed that his five-year-old son Teddy has begun defeating him at chess, despite the youngster requiring assistance with toilet breaks during matches.
The 38-year-old former tennis champion, who retired from professional tennis last year, has been spending time playing the strategic board game with his son at home.
Murray admitted to the BBC that losing to his young son proves particularly challenging, especially when Teddy interrupts gameplay to request help in the bathroom before returning to claim victory.
"It's difficult losing to a five-year-old when in the middle of the game he's asking you to come and wipe his bum, essentially," Murray revealed.

The two-time Wimbledon champion explained his enjoyment of the educational aspect, despite his modest chess abilities.
"I'm not a particularly good chess player, but I've got quite an analytical mind and I enjoy the game and watching him learn and playing with him," Murray said.
"He's going to the toilet in the middle of the game, and then he comes back and is beating me at chess. It's humbling that, for my intelligence."

Murray has found additional time for chess since departing his coaching position with Novak Djokovic last month, with the pair separating on good terms following a year of collaboration.
The Scottish sporting icon has since embarked on a new professional chapter, joining London-based investment firm Redrice Ventures as an associate partner.
Murray explained his motivation to the Sunday Times: "It's difficult to step away from a sport like tennis, which has been so all-consuming for me for so long, and then not have anything to fill that void."

He emphasised the importance of maintaining purpose post-retirement, noting he had witnessed other athletes struggle without immediate interests following their sporting careers.
"I'm also only 38 years old, so that's a long time to be retired," Murray added.

"I think for me it's the work ethic and single-minded determination to succeed [that makes it so appealing]."
Murray's connection with Redrice dates back to 2018, when he participated in a co-investment involving sportswear brand Castore.

His business portfolio already encompasses diverse ventures, including a five-star country house hotel in Scotland, a padel tennis company, and crowdfunding platform Seedrs.
"My plan was always to spend more time on my other business interests once I'd finished playing tennis, and I'm enjoying starting to work on some of those projects now," Murray said.
