Salford Red Devils will be able to complete the season

Tax authorities have given Salford Red Devils a second reprieve from their winding-up petition, permitting the struggling rugby league club to finish their 2025 campaign.

The adjournment follows an initial postponement in June, when the club expressed confidence about securing bridging finance to settle their £500,000 debt to HMRC.

Currently anchored at the foot of Super League with merely three victories from 24 fixtures, the Red Devils have endured a catastrophic season marked by financial chaos and administrative upheaval.

The club's points differential stands at minus 844, having conceded more than 1,000 points throughout the campaign.

The Red Devils released a statement expressing their "sincere gratitude to the courts for granting a further adjournment."

"This positive outcome is a vital step forward and allows Salford Red Devils to complete the remainder of our fixtures this season. It reflects the resilience of the club and the ongoing efforts taking place behind the scenes to secure its long-term future," the statement read.

The club also recognised their supporters' loyalty: "We also want to acknowledge the continued support from everyone connected to the club.

"Your backing - whether in the stands, in the community, or beyond - remains an important part of what keeps Salford moving forward."

Three matches remain in their campaign, with an away fixture against Huddersfield Giants followed by home encounters with Wakefield Trinity and Catalan Dragons.

The 2025 campaign has proved disastrous for a club that reached the play-offs just twelve months earlier under Paul Rowley's guidance, finishing fourth in 2024.

Administrative turmoil began when chief executive Chris Irwin departed within three months of appointment, whilst chief operating officer Claire Bradbury resigned after claiming ownership suggested she "sleep with someone at the Rugby Football League" to improve their circumstances.

Player availability reached crisis point when welfare concerns forced the cancellation of their Wakefield fixture, with only two senior players fit for selection, prompting supporter demonstrations.

Assistant coach Kurt Haggerty, designated as Rowley's successor for 2026, departed this week citing the club's precarious situation.

The club's financial difficulties emerged during the off-season when they sought early payment of their 2025 distribution funds.

May brought further setbacks when Salford City Council withdrew from discussions regarding the club's proposed acquisition of the Salford Community Stadium, their shared venue with Sale Sharks.

Rugby Football League restrictions through a sustainability cap severely limited team selection, resulting in inexperienced line-ups and an 82-0 thrashing by St Helens to open the season.
