The NFL star is suffering following the Kansas City Chiefs' failure to make the NFL play-offs for the first time in 11 years

With Travis Kelce set to marry Taylor Swift in June, the Kansas City Chiefs star should be feeling on top of the world.

Instead, at the current moment in time, the tight-end is coming to terms with the fact that his dream of another Super Bowl appearance is in tatters.

The Chiefs have dominated that showpiece event in recent years. They won the prestigious prize in 2023 and 2024, overcoming Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers respectively on those occasions.

Then, last year, their dominance ended. In New Orleans, Louisiana, the Eagles got their revenge for their defeat two years previously by winning 40-22.

Kelce, after that loss, was in tears. It was a crushing end to the season and led to talk that he would retire. In the end, ultimately, the 36-year-old opted to keep going.

Fast-forward to now, however, and walking away is very much on the agenda once more.

And that's because the Chiefs' dominance of NFL is now well and truly over, following their defeat to Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night.

Despite there being three regular season games remaining, the Chiefs have already been eliminated from play-off contention.

For Kelce, there's now a genuine possibility that his time in the sport is coming to an end. That arguably its biggest poster boy in recent years will walk off into the sunset and never return.

It is hardly an ideal scenario for the American as his wedding to Swift looms. And his brother, Jason, believes he'd be wise to bide his time before making any final call.

Speaking on ESPN, he said: "In my opinion, to nail that decision, you gotta step away from the game for a little bit.

"Play these last three games, enjoy them with your teammates, enjoy them with your coaches... And then let it sink in. It'll come to you with time.

"There are so many emotions with this game right after a season, especially with the way this one's been... Right now, it's just too fresh.

"You've gotta step away from it, you've gotta think about it and then it'll come to you."

On Sunday, Patrick Mahomes suffered a serious ACL injury.

That means the Chiefs star, who has been one of Kelce's best teammates during their time at the franchise together, is set to be out of action for the foreseeable future.

Ryan Clark, also speaking on ESPN, thinks Mahomes' blow could ultimately persuade Kelce to keep going.

"Just want to say this; it would feel extremely odd if somebody other than Patrick Mahomes throws Travis Kelce his last pass," he said.

One thing is certain, however. That whatever Kelce decides, Swift will support him.

The couple are closer than ever as their big day approaches and the pop star has always insisted she'll back whatever decision he deems right.

For now, NFL and Chiefs fans wait to see what Kelce will decide.

How the situation plays out is something only time will tell.
