The 18-year-old will be hoping to retain his title at Alexandra Palace this winter

Luke Littler was back among the Manchester United faithful on Sunday night, this time accompanied by girlfriend Faith Millar, as the teenager watched a breathless 4–4 draw with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The darts sensation has not allowed recent controversy surrounding his attendance at a United away match against Wolves to deter him from following his boyhood club, returning to the Theatre of Dreams while awaiting his next appearance at the World Darts Championship.

After cruising past Darius Labanauskas 3–0 in the opening round at Alexandra Palace on December 11, Littler has been forced into a lengthy pause, with his second-round match not scheduled until December 21.

That wait will end against David Davies, who booked a meeting with the world champion after a 3–1 victory over Mario Vandenbogaerde.

With competitive action temporarily on hold, Littler has filled the gap by indulging his long-standing passion for football.

Earlier this month, the 18-year-old found himself at the centre of debate after being spotted in the away end during United’s 4–1 win at Wolves.

The club’s away ticket ballot is among the strictest in the Premier League, requiring applicants to have held a season ticket for at least three years and to attend every home fixture, including cup matches.

Littler, whose darts commitments see him travelling constantly, does not meet those criteria.

It later emerged that the tickets had been provided by United’s kit manufacturer, Adidas, a revelation that did little to quell criticism among some supporters.

Nevertheless, Littler was again visible in the stands on Monday, this time in the home sections at Old Trafford, watching an eight-goal spectacle that lived up to the stadium’s famous billing.

United went into the interval holding a 2–1 lead after goals from Amad Diallo and Casemiro, appearing well-placed to extend a remarkable home record stretching back to 1984 of never losing a league match when ahead at half-time.

That statistic was quickly placed under severe threat as Bournemouth struck twice in rapid succession after the restart, turning the game on its head and silencing the crowd.

Bruno Fernandes restored belief with a superb free-kick before Matheus Cunha added a fourth in front of the Stretford End, seemingly putting United back in control.

Defensive fragility, however, proved costly once again.

Eli Junior Kroupi climbed off the bench to level for Bournemouth in the 84th minute, exposing the inexperience of United’s youthful back line and setting up a frenetic finale.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with Bournemouth sensing an opportunity to snatch all three points.

United ultimately clung on thanks to two crucial late saves from goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who atoned for an earlier error that had contributed to Bournemouth’s third goal.

Littler, watching the drama unfold alongside Millar, had earlier taken to social media to address criticism of his presence at Wolves.

Responding on Instagram, the teenager said: “I mean everyone just jumps on everything. They don’t know anything.

“So I’ve seen too much. My stupid requests and all that stuff, saying I’ve been on the waiting list and all that. I just said to my mate, I’m going to have to put something (online) to thank Adidas because no-one knows.

“And then when I put it on, they’re like: ‘Oh, you’re just trying to cover it up.’ But the tickets were off Adidas.

"What I heard was Adidas give out a certain amount of tickets a year, home and away, to whoever they want. So they chose me. They gave me three tickets for Wolves away.”
