The forward missed the game after being criticised by manager Erik ten Hag

Marcus Rashford was absent as Manchester United players celebrated their 1-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.

The forward was criticised by Erik ten Hag before the match, having gone to a nightclub to celebrate his birthday shortly after their 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City last week.

United then said Rashford was injured prior to the contest at Craven Cottage, despite the 25-year-old travelling down to west London with the rest of the squad.

Bruno Fernandes scored the only goal of the game for the Red Devils to lift some of the pressure on Ten Hag's shoulders.

And United players then celebrated the victory at the swanky MNKY House in Manchester.

Platters at the restaurant do not come cheap, costing up to £1,000.

Fernandes attended the celebrations, with the Portugal international delighted at firing the club to a crucial win.

Harry Maguire, Mason Mount, Scott McTominay, Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans and Lisandro Martinez, who is currently injured, also went out.

Martinez was seen sporting a protective boot having sustained a foot injury originally sustained back in April.

Rashford's absence was conspicuous, however.

The United star was outstanding last season, plundering 30 goals across all competitions to earn a new contract.

Yet his form has dropped off drastically and he's netted just once for the club so far this season.

Prior to the match with Fulham, Ten Hag admitted Rashford was apologetic for his night out after the City defeat.

"I spoke with him about it. It's unacceptable," stated the 53-year-old.

"He apologised and that is it. For us it's an internal matter.

"He's very motivated to put things right. He's totally with us.

"He has made a mistake but that doesn't say he's not fitting in.

"I see him every day in training, what he's doing, I know."

Rashford looked unhappy while sitting with his team-mates as United battled their way past Fulham.

The England international cut a sulky figure before the match, too, snubbing fans waiting for a high-five with their hero.

Rashford was seen walking past supporters, some of them children, with an iPad in his hands and his head down.

Speaking after the win over Fulham, meanwhile, Ten Hag provided an update on the forward and insisted he hadn't wanted to risk him.

"Yes, he had some complaints after training," said the Dutchman.

"He travelled with us but today the complaints were that much he couldn't start, it would be a risk to start him and lose him over more weeks and games.

"So we didn't want to go with the risk because we have many more important games to play."

United are next in action against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday night (8pm).

They won 1-0 against the same opponents last month, with Harry Maguire scoring the only goal of the game.

United need to win to boost their chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition, having picked up just three points from a possible nine so far.
