Scottie Scheffler brushed off a question regarding LIV Golf following a frustrating opening round at the Cadillac Championship in Doral.
The world's top-ranked golfer carded a 71 on Thursday, leaving him trailing leader Cam Young by seven shots.
When pressed by reporters on whether LIV Golf players ought to be permitted back onto the PGA Tour, Scheffler was clearly unwilling to engage with the topic.
His curt dismissal has sparked a fierce debate among golf supporters, with opinion sharply split on whether the American was justified in his response or whether he should have addressed the question as other players did.
"I just got off the golf course. I don't know what you want from me," Scheffler replied, laughing off the enquiry despite his evident irritation.
This marks the second occasion this year that the 29-year-old has been dismissive towards journalists' questions.
During The Masters, after firing a 65 on Saturday to put himself in contention, a reporter asked what score he believed was achievable for him.

Scheffler responded by laughing and labelling it a "horrible question."
The pattern of terse exchanges with the media has not gone unnoticed by fans, with some questioning whether the world number one's frustration stems from legitimate grievances or simply reflects his mood following disappointing performances.
Supporters of Scheffler have rallied to his defence on social media, arguing the timing of the question was inappropriate.

Others found his reaction entirely understandable, with one posting: "Honestly that might be the most relatable thing a professional athlete has said all year. sometimes you just want to go home after work."
Several fans directed their criticism at the journalist rather than Scheffler, suggesting such political matters should be directed towards PGA management rather than players focused on competition.
However, not all fans were sympathetic to Scheffler's approach, with several pointing out that he stood alone in refusing to engage with the topic.
"The same question was asked to every other player post-round, Scottie was the only one who refused to answer it," one observer noted, highlighting that Jordan Spieth, Cameron Young and Brian Harman all responded to the same enquiry.

The future of LIV Golf is up in the air with the Saudis pulling funding
| PAOne critic wrote: "Scottie becomes less likeable by the day. Spieth asked the same question and gave a great answer."
Others suggested his demeanour was directly linked to his underwhelming performance rather than the nature of the question itself.
"He played poorly so he acted like a douche here. Still think he's a good guy, but I am not as sure as I was a month ago," one fan remarked.
LIV Golf is currently facing an uncertain future, with the breakaway tour looking into funding options following the decision of the Saudis to pull the plug.
