The world number one let out his anger towards his experienced caddie

Scottie Scheffler vented his frustration at long-standing caddie Ted Scott during a tense moment in the final round of the Cadillac Championship.

The world number one appeared to have a straightforward tap-in for par on the ninth hole, but misjudged the slope and watched his ball miss by the narrowest of margins.

After reluctantly tapping in to record a bogey, Scheffler turned to Scott and was seen complaining to the veteran caddie.

The confrontation came against a backdrop of mounting disappointment for the American, who has now settled for second place in three successive tournaments.

At the RBC Heritage Classic, Scheffler fell to Matt Fitzpatrick in a playoff decider, while Rory McIlroy denied him victory at Augusta National just weeks earlier.

Scott has worked alongside Scheffler since 2021, serving as both caddie and mentor throughout his rise to the top of world golf.

The added weight of near-misses appeared to boil over at President Donald Trump's Blue Monster course, with the commentator adding: "Ted Scott's ears may be bleeding at the end of the day."

Cameron Young delivered a commanding performance to claim the title, winning with a solid six stroke lead of his Ryder Cup teammate on 19-under par.

The American's dominance left Scheffler with little chance of mounting a challenge, as the world number one struggled to find answers on the demanding putting surfaces.

Despite his own frustrations, Scheffler offered warm praise for Young's exceptional week at the Blue Monster.

The 29-year-old said: "I've always been very impressed with Cam's game.

"Every time I played with him throughout - I mean, I've known him a long time. Every time I've played with him I've always been impressed with his game.

"This week he hit a lot of quality shot. A lot of quality iron shots, quality tee shots, especially on the holes where it really matters.

"There are some tee shots out here that are really difficult and he stepped up and hit the shots."

Scheffler continued: "On the greens he was unbelievable this week. First 27 holes I don't think he missed anything really.

"It was nuts. Guy was just holing everything.

"When you're hitting really good shots and holing a lot of putts that's a recipe to run away with a golf tournament."

Scheffler has pulled out of next week's Truist Championship which has handed Rory McIlroy a huge boost of claiming the £2.65million prize.
