Rory McIlroy will not participate in the upcoming Memorial Tournament, scheduled for May 29, marking his first absence from Jack Nicklaus's prestigious event in eight years.
The Northern Irishman has been a consistent presence at Muirfield Village since 2017, with the call made as he prepares to return to the UK with his family next month.
His decision to skip the tournament follows a disappointing performance at the PGA Championship, where he finished tied for 47th place with a three-over-par score. McIlroy has offered no official explanation for his absence from the Golden Bear's event.
This withdrawal continues a pattern for the 36-year-old, who has already missed two signature events this season.

McIlroy's PGA Championship struggles extended beyond his performance on the course. He notably skipped media duties throughout the week, drawing criticism from observers.
The four-time major winner was also caught up in controversy when the USGA's driver testing forced him to switch clubs leading up to the tournament. This equipment change may have contributed to his underwhelming showing.
Despite speculation about his reasons for withdrawing from the Memorial Tournament, McIlroy has maintained silence on the matter.
