Former US Open champion Wyndham Clark has been accused of causing significant damage to the historic locker room at Oakmont Country Club following his failure to make the cut at this year's championship.

The 31-year-old American, who won the 2023 US Open at LA Country Club, allegedly damaged locker doors after finishing his second round on Friday with a score of eight over par, missing the cut by a single shot.

According to Tron Carter of the No Laying Up podcast: "Multiple sources confirming that the Blow Pig really got after it in the Oakmont locker room."

An accompanying photograph appeared to show two panels of locker doors damaged.

Clark's disappointing performance saw him card two rounds of 76 on Thursday and Friday, finishing one shot outside the cut line after bogeying the 18th hole in his second round.

The 2023 champion, who defeated Rory McIlroy by one shot in California, has struggled significantly in major championships since his victory.

His record shows just one top-40 finish from 15 major appearances, with eight missed cuts including last week's tournament.

Carter described the incident as "Super classy, desecrating one of the most historic spots in golf AND on the heels of his behaviour at Quail Hollow."

He added: "Probably time to put him in the cooler for a few months."

Golf fans have responded with fury to the alleged incident, with many calling for Clark to face suspension from future tournaments.

One supporter said: "That's a historical locker room too I'd ban him from ever playing there again tbh."

Another replied: "This is unacceptable anywhere. He's a guest of Oakmont. You don't do this ever."

A third stated: "Not even close to acceptable, for a pro or amateur. He should be suspended. Imagine being a guest at a club and doing that after the round."

A fourth echoed those comments by saying: "He should be suspended. This is ridiculous.

"The tour and the USGA should make statements strongly condemning the club throwing, profanity, and all the other antics that have become the norm in the professional game."

And a fifth fan wrote: "Wyndham Clark should be banned from next year’s US Open. Completely unacceptable behaviour."

2010 US Open champion Graeme McDowell, however, defended Clark and said his antics were 'minimal'.

He posted on X: “This is minimal [in] regards [to] what I’ve seen other players do. Players you would never expect.

"Oakmont will test any player's mental fortitude. Seen it in person.”
