Trans row rumbles on as Sutton United come out fighting following signing of transgender goalkeeper
SUTTON
Sutton United have defended their decision to sign transgender goalkeeper Blair Hamilton after a match was recently postponed.
Sutton's women's team had recently been due to lock horns with Ebbsfleet United, only for the match to be delayed with no explanation just hours before kick off.
Reports earlier this week said it was because players 'refused to play' alongside Hamilton, who made her debut for the club on August 25.
Sutton, however, have now hit back.

They have told the BBC that 'a lot of misinformation has been spread'.
They also said they 'fully support the manager and Blair' with Sutton's women's side managed by transgender former referee Lucy Clark.
"Certain officials within the club thought it was best to postpone the game to check on the legalities around the situation, and in order to avoid negative attention and hate," they added.

"We understand the sensitivity surrounding the issue of trans women in sports, and the club have followed all Football Association (FA) protocols and have confirmed that the player’s involvement is fully compliant with all legal and regulatory guidelines.
